What stands out for you in all your years of following the R's?

Whilst the play off final can't be topped for drama, I think winning the FA Cup semi final at Highbury was my personal favorite. Back in those days it was really a big thing to get to the FA Cup final, and we did it as second division team. I remember on the train on the way home being so proud to have witnessed history being made, and we was in the national spotlight.

dave the tramps horrendous farts in the lower loft. that fella created so much space on the terraces.
also, the smokebomb that was hurled into the newcastle fans in the upper school end during the 5-5 game.
that, and the bannister hatrick against the scum.

The crowd at Nottingham Forest after were relegated from the Prem the first time. God only knows how many R's were there but it seemed close to 7-8k, nearly all dressed up for a fancy dress party, we arrived in the pubs around 1 O'clock, never stopped singing until we left the ground around 6 O'Clock. There was a large party of Bayern? fans there and they came out of the stand at the end to give us a standing ovation for our support and Ray Wilkins, Danny Maddix & Macca came out of the dressing rooms long after the game had finished to join us in the singing in the away end. Jason Lee wore a pineapple on his head and we lost 3-0. As I was older then. it felt like a better away day than the one at Villa when we were promoted to the first division in 1968 but that one was pretty fucking amazing too.

Rodney. Any of his moments, especially Wembley'67. A pity he turned into a bit of a knob where we are concerned.

Clive Allen’s goal at Upton Park in 84, the drag back special.
Unusually, I was sat with home fans in their main stand, the looks I got from the locals when we scored.

I lost my specs when Stanley scored, at the end of the game I found them on the floor, smashed to pieces, I then clambered over the Loft wall and joined the thousands on the pitch.

2 cup games against Arsenal come to mind, both at Loftus Rd.
December 1976, we beat them 2-1 in the League Cup, Alan Ball missed a penalty in front of the Loft.
January 1990, we beat them 2-0 in an FA Cup replay, Kenny Samson scored a cracker.
Back then cup games meant something, and sometimes we actually won them.

Going 2-1 up at City, with 10 men, when we needed to win (or so we thought) to stay up was a magic "moment"

Two moments immediately spring to mind for me: the first, Tricky's goal v Barnsley. I was sitting in W block that day, almost directly in line with him when he executed that amazing bicycle kick.
The second moment was in our title winning season when Ishmael Miller ran on to that fabulous pass from Routledge to score against Leicester. If there had been any lingering doubt that we would go all the way that season, I think that goal ended it. I was in the SA stand that day, and I'd turned to Chappers moments before Colin brought Ishmael on and said "it's Miller time!". And boy, it certainly was. I see they've nicked my line in the video:

Hearing we'd brought Cesar. And had got SWP over the line in the transfer window. Two magical moments that soon turned to liquid shit......
Other than the ones mentioned, beating Chelsea in the Milk Cup quarterfinal in 1986 was brilliant (as was beating them 2-0 away in 1980); staying up on goal difference with a 0-0 draw at home to Leeds in May 1978 (Currie, soon of this parish, hitting the crossbar from thirty yards); the five consecutive home wins to stay up in 2012; plus frantically hitting refresh on my phone, when in my knees in front of the TV, to see if Stoke had beat Bolton when we'd lost the lead at City was pretty amazing...

Another moment i've just thought of was when we needed to beat Palace to stay up and we put six past them. It was the last game of the season, a glorious hot sunny day and I didn't have a ticket because my mate, who was supposed to have got them while I was away, had completely forgotten about it. The game was meant to be sold out, but I was in the Bushranger about an hour before kick off, asking in desperation if anyone had a spare, and then someone said, why don't you try and get one using my membership number? I wasn't a member that season, nor a season ticket holder. It seemed a long shot, but I legged it over to HQ and stood in a queue at the box office where people were collecting tickets. By the time I got to the counter it was about a minute before kick off. I don't suppose you have any tickets left, I asked? Well, the woman behind the counter said, I don't think so, but hold on. She checked on the system and said, well, there is one restricted view seat left in the corner of the loft, do you want that? Yes please!!! Well you'd have to be a member she said. Luckily I'd remembered the bloke's name, address and DOB. I think it was the very last ticket in the whole ground. Clutching my golden ticket I went in and watched that mad final game unfold. And then got completely hammered in the Bushranger afterwards. Happy days

John Burridge’s save away at Charlton in Oct 81, world class. I didn't think of it when you first posted, but did you go to the game at home against Liverpool when Ian Rush headed the ball past David Seaman but Harry arched backwards and palmed it up over the crossbar. It was very similar to the famous Banks save from Pele and probably just as good.
