Give me today's fitness and equipment any day, much better game now. Given how shit it was in comparison I would love to see some of the old stars who excelled despite that reborn today. what players from the 70's-80's would have been able to play in today's modern era out of curiosity? i'm not talking like a hypothetical situation where you have someone like terry butcher for example able to take advantage of today's coaching to be a better player but rather a player's playing style etc. the way the game has changed leaps and bounds from the 70's-80's to today. i know players like maradona and dalgleish for example would have excelled in today's game but what about other players, especially defenders would have been good enough to pluck them up from their prime and put them into a modern day team? I did say reborn, with today's fitness regimes, diets etc...not as they were. So on skills and ability we can start with Marsh and Bowles, many from the 66 and 70 England squad, plus Best, Worthington, Keegan, Law, Hudson, England and Mackay were terrific defenders if you just want them to defend although Mackay could pick a pass, likewise Charlton and Hunter and they had Bremner and Giles to do the passing. I'm talking about reincarnating them not slotting them in as they were. These were good and exciting players with a daft ball and on mudheaps. And you could tackle in those days. Bowles/Best would take some stopping now.

I also think any of the Liverpool teams under Shankly and, especially, Paisley would compete successfully today if fitness levels were comparable.

If any of the players from the past were reborn to play modern football then that is what they would be playing; modern football. The days of kicking lumps out of opponents has passed into the mists of time and those whose only skill it was wouldn't be footballers today.

Exactly right, no room for Ron Harris for one! Useless if he wasn't kicking you from the waist down. The dirty Leeds side could all play, even Tommy Smith could play. Moore and Todd did play.

I don't miss the assaults that went on, disgusting some of the stuff, but today is spoilt by all the play acting and cheating. It should still be hard but fair. Almost non-contact now, everything is a foul.

Esox and Al was game better then for being able to put a meaty challenge in Not for me, I like to see breathtaking displays of skill and I honestly see more players with this ability and a lot of it is to do with the fact that they are better (over) protected now and know that some lumpen defender isn't going to get away with following up on a threat of "Do that one more time and I'll break both your fucking legs" etc. What you do see now, and I appreciate just as much as the attacking skills, is defenders who are capable of keeping up with fast, tricky forwards and are able to rob them with well timed tackles and set up their own attacks. Andy Impey on David Ginola at Loftus Road back in the day was a highlight of things to come IMO. I also remember Chris Hughton being very adept at tackling and setting up counter attacks.

Hope the club will be able to offer an attractive enough contract to keep our captain Grant Hall..he looks like he’s put his injury problems behind him now and with 30apps and five goals this season he’s done well. Irrespective of if he decides not to play until COVID subsides i would like him to stay.

30apps and five goals this season he’s done well. Indeed. Arguably his best ever season with us.

Type of player which would like to hang on too but would not die in a ditch if he left

Thing is there were players around way back in the day who had that god given talent but also had to put up with ploughed fields and random assaults. Today would be a walk in the park for them given contemporary fitness and diet.

Just before the start of the season, in one of my pm exchanges with !!!! on here, i said that i thought hall would be my player to watch.
With all his injury worries and being in the last year of his contract, felt it was an important season for him to show what he is made of.
Personally feel he has done well overall and deserves a new contract.

Just see article on Twitter. Honest thoughts not overly bothered equally would not have been upset if he had remained.
Think we can get a player of equal calibre an awful lot cheaper Who is also more reliable

I'd have liked to see Hall stay, but its sounds like he priced himself out of a new deal with us. So be it, good luck to him if he can find better elsewhere. I think it will be buyers market this summer again. There will be plenty of decent players at this level looking for a contract.

So typical of modern day footballers to finally produce consistent form and shake off injury in final year of contract.
Good calm defender on his day.

sad to see him go but at the same time its understandable given his injuries and likely big wage demands.

If Spurs Offered 20 million for Eze and Bos would you take it in the current club state bearing in mind we are very broke
I think i would if they are both going even though it should be nearer 25 million ish
Pay the rest of the farking fine off and start again, 15 million for the fine and give Warbs million to re invest on players
