It would be interesting to see what an innovative young manager could make of this squad. I personally think it's a very good squad Al. It's frustrating that we are still not defending properly. And we seem to have become a 30-45 minute side. We looked awesome for about 40 minutes today. I don't understand why we can't do it for 90 minutes.

But from the highlights and the posts I’ve read on this thread it sounded very similar to the game against Brentford. Good 1st halve then self-destruct. I think the squad is quite inexperienced and thin in quite a few positions. I’d be looking at getting in an experienced centre halve, and if possible an experienced right and left sided fullback in January. All successful teams are build on a good defence.

Same old same old and now getting pointless being angry or frustrated by things as this manager will not change so at what point do the club make the change?

To me it seems like Warburton is a part of the upper hierarchy now.

The potential bodes well for the future but it’s not great in the here and now. My fear is we’re in danger, as of fans, of doing what we Always do with players wildly overstating how good they are (manning Lumley etc) which builds expectations which leads to pressure when we come up short, example keep seeing people saying Dickies is top quality but let’s have it straight he’s a young decent CB who you can see the potential but he makes tons of mistakes which are leading to goals, he’s not currently top quality he’s a rough diamond and same applies to Kakay. There is a lot to like about some of our performances but just as much to scratch our heads about. Positionally when we’re not set and are running back towards our goal we look at 6s and 7s it’s just people charging back or towards the ball their is no structure it’s just bodies getting back. Manager needs to do more that’s a given but it’s deeper then that and if people think the second half performances are down to subs etc then your focusing in just one area when their are fires elsewhere which need putting out. These young players of potential now need to start learning during matches and learn bloody quickly as for however dominant and entertaining we are for 45mins it’s the actual result after 90 which counts

We clearly don't. That was the main difference between the teams tonight. They have nous. We look tactically naive with a soft underbelly. That first half counts for absolute shit if you don't covert all that possession and domination into goals. Especially with a defence like ours that's always vulnerable with a single goal advantage.

Experienced Centre Halve and Left Back is the minimum needed in January. Lee Wallace is finished at this level, he needs to go as soon as there’s cover.

We're not, but we are an interesting project because at times we look great so it's in there somewhere. I'm not convinced at all that MW will get the best out of the squad because he appears to ignore the shortcomings and just barrels on. We play with confidence going forward until we miss chances and the defence cocks up then we don't seem to know how to pick ourselves up again

Warburton needs to return to the basics, make yourself hard to beat. Once you’re tough to breakdown, score against then you can start to work on the attacking side of the game.

Unfortunately that mentality goes against how he plays the game. Personally I would be looking at replacements now as he will not change which means we can never achieve anything.

It’s obvious the team are conceding too many goals. He’s tried just about ever combination along the back 4 with the players available in the squad. Outwith bringing in different personnel, the only logical step is to try a formation change, either go 3 at the back or 4-3-3 and see if an extra midfielder will help reduce goals against. You can be hard to break down and play nice football when you go forward.

The man has one way of playing and that is solely based on us having the ball.

The modern game isn't one for slow centre backs who turn like an oil tanker, and we have two of them - that's why they are always grabbing at people. We need a clever defensive coach to get the best out of what we've got because that's where we are as a club for the foreseeable.

I’ve never been a fan of 4-2-3-1, I always feel it leaves the midfield thin and open to being countered.

Get the back right and going forward we'll be fine but I can't understand why, with one of the best strikers of modern times (who has also played with the best) sitting in the stand we can't work on Dykes'positioning, BOS' decisions, Chair's shooting etc.

I think QPR could get Declan Gallagher for a minimal amount in January, probably a couple of hundred thousand. His contract is up in the summer and he’ll be moving for nothing then. So if QPR were to offer them something, I’m pretty sure they’d take it. He’d make a difference at the back.

We need a clever defensive coach And once again, we return to this matter. Will Warburton ever bring one in? He'd have done so by now, if it was ever gonna happen. So it's safe to say that it won't.

No. Just Warbs and his four coaches. One works on set pieces. The other on analysing the opposition. The other is a GK coach. The other is his 'assistant'. But no dedicated defensive or strikers coach. Seems crazy if you ask me. Especially when you have Les Ferdinand as DoF.

Does seem crazy, especially since it’s QPRs policy to sign players with potential, who aren’t the finished article. The coach who analyses the opposition must have an easy job since Warburton doesn’t change the way he plays, regardless

Just watched the highlights again and one thing that struck me was nobody was shouting and screaming at any of his teammates. No one was was having a go at Wallace for heading the ball infield instead of out for their first chance, no one having a go at Wallace or Kakay for the first goal. A leader is needed at the back, someone who will scream at his teammates, it’s not a popularity contest on the pitch, you can all be friends again after the match when they’ve got a result

Neil Banfield ex.Arsenal should be able to get the defence organised, but it doesn`t look like he is able to do it at all.

I'm not worried as long as we play attractive football, keep trying and are well above the relegation zone. Everything else is just useless complaining.

Very difficult game as I rate Bristol City...more than happy with a point Realistic post, but you never know with us do you! Wouldn't mind seeing Kelman get a run out. If Wells plays we'll need to score twice.... How right you were Alan with Wells.. tend to agree with your point regarding Kelman as a clinical goal scorer may have put Bristol game to bed in the first half
