Still only 31 and two years left on his contract.
With a good pre-season behind him and recovered from his injury I say let's back him.

I'm really hoping a good rest and a decent pre-season sees Johansen recapture some of the form we saw of him during his loan spell. This might sound harsh, but I'd pick a new captain. Tell Stefan to concentrate on his own get and give someone who's more likely to start every week the armband. Games moved on hope he cuts it but I doubt it.

Great to see so many of our players getting support on here.
How about seeing how they do under the new manager and his coaching staff, new systems and fully recovered from injuries they were clearly carrying back end of last season?
At least given them 6-8 games FFS before slagging them off...

I actually like Stef myself. Clearly he has no legs & as such needs to be played in a system to accommodate this. But I still think he has a better footballing brain & eye for a pass than most, if not all, of our other options.
If we can get him with Field & Amos around him I think we will see the best of him this season... (he says optimistically).

Clearly he has no legs & as such needs to be played in a system to accommodate this. Exactly this. Question is whether we can afford to accommodate it player wise. Either way good luck to him, I hope he's out there moving like Frankel come Sat afternoon.

Interesting final comment, said Blackburn "like us have one or two players who are interesting other teams so how they start the window might not be how they end it." Is he saying there has been some interest in our players?

Stefan remains one of the first names on the team sheet for me. When he’s firing he’s probably in the top five passers in this division. You don’t need legs to dictate the play if you don’t give the ball away and you got movement around you.
Pirlo never really left centre circle but pulled the strings and influenced every game

I could listen to this man all day. Here's hoping. .... until we lose! lol was the same with MW. I always loved his interviews thought he spoke very openly & honestly & was clearly a very intelligent football man. But when you're losing games whatever they say infuriates you haha Without diving back into MW again though, I agree with 77, Beale speaks very well & I am hoping that is reflected in his style of football.

Movement, running in behind, finding space are all qualities we lacked last season.
Only time will tell.

Big season for Torso this year. He needs to lay a few ghosts to rest from last season. He was clearly not up to par, and needs to demonstrate that he still has what it takes to be playing championship football.

Even great sides have had problems carrying someone. He's gonnna be targetted every game. It's ludicrous to build a system around someone who is basically fucked, and thats what you have to do to look after them. Maybe he'll astonish us all and run around like a young Vieira. I hope so.

Am prepared to wait a few games but suspect him to be a second half sub, nothing in his pre season games suggest anything else.

It's ludicrous to build a system around someone who is basically fucked Define "basically fucked"? 😅 Sure he's not the quickest but that's not necessarily an issue considering his role in the side. Shaun Derry wasn't the quickest either but again, that didn't matter much either. Both players in these examples (although they played different roles) had pacier players around them which didn't result in a net negative on the team. West Acton used the Pirlo example. Mine was just a bit closer to home lol. The fact is none of us know if SJ is fully over last season's injury. Time will tell. Hopefully he is but we simply don't know yet.

Has Stefan ever been pacey? Not imo so not sure if he’s slowed down a touch will make much of a difference to him

I know that Field also isn’t the quickest but for me Johansen has previous for switching off and letting his man run off him quite easy. The only time I’ve seen Johansen tackle an opponent is with a body check or forearm smash. If I were Tomasson today I would get Dolan to stay close to Johansen and when possession is regained he will get a free straight run through MF at Dickie and Salter.

My mate played against a well retired trev brooking in some Essex league many moons ago. Said he had no pace but u can’t get near him due to vision of playing the ball. Said he sprayed balls all over 99% pin point. Tbf he said for his then age amazing

Gave up on this player after just Six games last season, in each of the games he was directly responsible for us conceding, if you don’t believe me go back and look for yourself, Boro first goal on Saturday emphasises the point.
Johansen does a lot of hand waving when things don’t go well for the team but brings absolutely nothing to the table to change things.Well overdue to hanging his boots up at QPR.
