Looking just at our expected goals ‘for’ column on this website is it a simple question of getting more shots away during build up play movements to score more regularly. Our set play expected goal ratios also look particularly poor in comparison to most of the others, for me both inadequacies appear to be repairable and just need to be highlighted by the coaches to the players. theanalyst.com/eu/2023/08/championship-stats-2023-24-opta/

They were awful under Olly & Warbs as well. We're just not street smart. Be interesting to see if that changes. Not holding my breath.

They were awful under Olly & Warbs as well. We're just not street smart. Be interesting to see if that changes. Not holding my breath. Poor set plays under previous coaches are difficult to prove without similar stats at this point. Looking at Warburton for example CB Grant Hall scored 5 goals in 2019/20. Beale brought in a specialist set piece coach and I can remember Beale publicly ribbing him on his minus figures when comparing his for and against goal scored. The simple fact that our possession stats have jumped to approx 50% under Marti should increase our probability of more set pieces given in our favour and less given away. The common denominator in our lack of goals scored from set pieces has to be the delivery from the likes of Chair and to a much lesser degree other players.

So 44.4% of Smyth’s crosses/passes do find someone. If only that someone was any good eh? We might score some goals.
Odd stat really, doesn’t distinguish between killer passes leading to a chance and just knocking it back and forth on the halfway line.

www.skysports.com/football/preston-north-end-vs-queens-park-rangers/report/484925If you scroll down here to the stats on individual players, really encouraging signs: Dozzell, Cannon, Chair, Dixon-Bonner, Willock, Paal, Lakarche all around 80% pass accuracy. Would never have achieved that under our old style of play. Smyth stands out at just over 50% as needing improvement but in fairness harder to pass accurately when you are crossing as opposed to tapping it around in our own half I guess.

Lower down BTW also says that we won 57% of duals and even 52% of headers - suggesting that not only are we doing the "pretty" stuff better, but even on Ainsworth's preferred metrics we are much better under Marti.

5 shots on target to their 1 - also very telling (and we were the away side)

22 times 😂 His offside to minutes on the pitch ratio must be astronomical 😂 With his burst of pace surely they can teach him to stay just ONside?

another pretty shocking stat here about paul smyth. yesterday he had: just 17 touches just fives passes and only ONE of those passes found a teammate in contrast Chair: 59 touches 36 passes 78% accuracy 5 shots, 2 on target 1 goal And Willock: 44 touches 29 passes 83% accuracy 2 key passes 2 fouls attracted 1 goal Just imagine if Richards would “return to full fitness” or we have someone better down the right like the Hull lad who went off injured we be hard to play against in this league www.skysports.com/football/queens-park-rangers-vs-hull-city/report/484937

Would like to think Richards is given a start and or at least some mins before January arrives with doubts on if Chair will be here.

I love his pace, need that in a team but he hasn’t got anything else. Maybe not best out wide.

No Platini Pirlo Netzer in MF. I wouldn't care about the offside stat if, like the other names getting caught all the time, he had a little more to show for it.

I imagine we've also got one of the worst goals conceded ratio as well... 18 conceded in 12 matches.

Again need midfielders who see things early and pass quickly not dwell take another touch meanwhile Sinclair has gone anticipating the pass early.
