Ah yes, that was it. I remember the chauffer thing as well. Isn't JJB on LFW as well Hubs? I'm not sure mate. He's moved from Dover to Glasgow and seems to have forgotten all about the mighty Rs.

Stains, Rowett can say whatever he wants, if McNamara doesn't want to sign a new deal, he's really not got a lot of market value. He's a Championship standard player and almost every Championship side is skint. Unless one of the divisions big boys or an overseas team with a few quid come in for him, they'll have to take what's on the table or lose him for nothing in a year.

Just read that Lewis Grabban is a free agent. Scored 12 last season for Forest, one year deal is surely a no brainer given our striker situation?

If we land him Tarbs I will doff my cap to the club (and to you). But Rowett's reaction to me didn't read like he was fishing to get us to up the offer, it was more like "we are not even on the same page so don't waste your breath". Time will tell I guess.

I think I’m correct saying McNamara will be 24 in December, after that will not require a training compensation fee being paid when his contract expires and he leaves on a free.

Jed Wallace didn't want to sign and Millwall rejected £2m for him. He left on a free. Millwall won't sell on the cheap, they see more value in the player than what it costs to replace him. Mcnamara is a Millwall fan as well so he's less likely to have his head turned (by us anyway!).

It makes sense for a lot of clubs to lose players for free if it means getting another year out of them.

Clubs make mistakes with young players contracts especially during their development, BOS didn’t do enough to warrant another contract before his final year.so he left on a development fee.
From my personal view I would be pissed off if for instance if £2m was offered for Chair and we turned it down in his final year.
No way I see our club or someone like Hoos turning his nose up at £2m when that money could buy a replacement.
As to McNamara he’s probably on Kakay type money at Millwall after coming through their academy and wether he’s a Millwall fan or not he will be off to the first club prepared to double his wages.

Well here we are August round the corner and the only reliable hitman in sight is the one from on here.
The two tens idea behind a 'flexible' striker only works if you have serious quality behind your 9.
It's kind of a false 9 lite, but we just aint got the staff elsewhere on the park to compensate.

Sorry, just read the earlier posts and realised I'm talking to you about old news there.
On a side note, all those that were doom and gloom a week or 2 back, how are you feeling now?
I know we desperately need at least one full back and probably a couple of offensively minded players, but the calibre coming in looks pretty good to me.

Still think we lack goals and need a right back but also still think we'll be at least mid table.

I think its impossible to say how optimistic we should feel ATM Tarbie. There are a lot of teams in the Championship who all think they would be contenders if only they had two or three key additions. Even the likes of Reading have a number of players we would probably quite like. We get a half decent right back and crucially a striker who can hit 20 goals in a season and we look like play off hopefuls to me. Start Dykes with Kakay at right back I think we look mid-table.

We aren't going to get a 20 goal a year striker Stains. We might bring one in who ends up being that (maybe we even have one in the squad already). But we ain't gonna sign anyone who's a proven 20 goal a year striker. We ain't got deep enough pockets.

Agree we are not going to land the finished article - the only one who fits that description who has been linked to us is the Southampton striker who did so well at Blackburn. But Beale said that the parent club of one or two players linked to us on loan had asked for a million quid loan fee. And if that was him that of course rules him out. Someone like Archer also has the potential to score a lot of goals. But no one in our existing squad looks like getting that kind of total IMHO, tho on a positive we do have a number of players who you could see chipping in - just not quite enough for the play offs as things stand.

I was kind of hoping we were after Veton Berisha for Viking Stavanger, but he went to Hammarby in Sweden for £1M. He would hav suited us perfect. Better than Dykes imo.
