Would be a bit pissed if Martin signs now. What’s he been doing last 8weeks where has he been keeping fit.
I would jog him on now you had chance your never took it identify someone younger.

Chris Martin wouldn't be Chris Martin if the supposed deal was straightforward ...He is borderline arrogant. However Billy Sharp is a good suggestion imo. He sure knows where the net is and also a faster player.

Billy Sharp
Josh Maja
Britt Assombalonga
Benik Afobe
Connor Wickham
Martyn Waghorn
Lewis Grabban
All without clubs.
Definitely a couple there I’d take for a season despite age.

Sharp is 37 years old and scored only 2 goals last season. Not sure he's anymore the answer than Martin is. Either way, we do need some signings pronto. Squad is small and the back up from the U23's ain't gonna cut it.

WLS suggesting yesterday that (pre-Colback) we were likely to bring in 5-7 more players.
Which flies in the face of Ainsworth's assertion that he would be working with a smaller squad this season.
4-6 (in addition to Colback) more coming in would take our squad size to around 30(!). That said, quite a few of them are youngsters, so may not count towards the EFL squad size rule.
Probably also signals that some will be on their way...

Gaz on Colback:
Read on the BBC web site that although he's come in on a 2 year contract, there's an option for a 3rd year.
Hoping he's the new Shaun Derry...

With Colback, the First Team squad will be 23, according to the offish. Though that includes a few youngsters.

What's the point of all pre-season and creating team spirit there and then signing half of the starting 11 afterwards?

I'm not sure why everyone assumes that this spree of transfers is a knee jerk to getting beaten badly at the weekend. Perhaps it's a factor but I'll point out that what's going on is also the nature of things when you are shopping for a bargain in the transfer market.
Out of contract players will be looking for the best contract they can find. Let's be honest, we aren't going to be offering top end Championship money. Players that were perhaps hoping they could find a better deal, will come back to the negotiating table as the window draws to a close.

We’ve done another 180 flip. Gone from wanting bring in young players to develop and sell on for profit to bringing in 30+ players will no resale value.
We literally have no strategy the club is dysfunctional says one thing then does another.

And actually, they're not mutually exclusive. Having the likes of Begovic and Colback in the squad week-in, week-out, can only help the youngsters develop.

I admire your optimism, West is bang on - the club have thrown the whole 'philosophy' we had been building out the window. We were playing a certain brand of football which was consistent through Warburton, Beale & Critchley appointments, and have totally disregarded that in appointing Ainsworth. Likewise the proposed plan of developing youngsters to sell on is clearly on the back burner now with short term visions engaged. Don't get me wrong, I think Begovic & Colback are both decent players and an improvement on what we have/had.... but in terms of the clubs structure we are a shambles.
