don't want to get ahead of ourselves just because we have had two wins, but if by some miracle come Jan we are heading north up the table I hope this finally might be a year to take the cup a bit more seriously. I know, fantasy, but the obits of El Tel reminded me that we did once do cup runs.

We should focus on the league like we have done every season and had huge success.

QPR vs Bournemouth. Winnable at home I think.

That FA Cup tie makes it 5 games at home in January.

Not bad in terms of can we win or not - they will field a very weakened side which gives us a chance - but an absolute disaster for the club in terms of revenue.
The kind of match which won't interest TV companies and due to the 50/50 split in gate receipts we may not even break even.

Slight exaggeration? I can think of other opponents who would bring in less. Plus of course the money does not depend on the draw factor. It simply increases the further you progress. The disaster is the attitude we've taken to the cup, thus ensuring that we make the minimum amount possible year by year. I've never understood how this squares with the constant bleatings about poverty that emanate from the direction of LR with monotonous regularity.

We'll get about 8,000 for the game which means we earn the revenue of about 4,000 once the 50/50 split is done. Once overheads and staff wages are taken into account - and it will be reduced ticket costs including, probably, £5 kids tickets - we'll be lucky to break even. Maybe 'disaster' is an exaggeration but for a club who lose over £1.5m a month and have had to take a back route to earn money to pay off Ainsworth and, hopefully, fund MC in January, no one involved with the budgeting at Loftus Road will be anything but disappointed with the draw.

So thats like 105k for winning a third round tie plus yer gate money. It's still sfa vs prem rights money, but then so is everything else.

Replays scrapped

Post by MattyRangers on Apr 18, 2024 10:36:34 GMT
Can see both sides of this. Replays can be a nuisance for a lot of teams (espeiclaly those in the top 2 leagues fighting for something in the league), but then for the lower league sides replays away at a big club can be huge for them (both in terms of the spectacle itself and the valuable financial gain it brings). It is def another big nail in the FA Cup's coffin though IMO.

Id say scrap same division replays.
Lets face it, QPR vs Blackburn is shit once, yet alone twice.
Or no replays from round 5 onwards.

Robbed by the rich.
Every team should refuse to play the top six. Give them six points. Play for seventh place in the PL. Consider that the title.
