Very little quality going forward. Disappointed with Anderson. Smyth will never ever be good enough at this level I’m afraid, the decision making is so poor. We need to do business between now and the end of the window and prioritise a right sided attacker, a number 10 and a box to box midfielder. Also think teams will target the messing about at the back if we are not careful. Lots of work to do but trust the club to get it right. Smyth can punch the ground as much as he likes but he’s one of the players who waste chances to hit the target or supply the forwards more than most. Good minutes for most today but to not score in 360 minutes of pre season football back in the uk is a major concern

Frey battled well when came on, winning back possession a couple of times You never see Dykes doing that.
Alfie Lloyd looked good too.
Was the foul for their pen inside the box? Looked very close to me.

Forwards rely on service and the couple of times we, and smyth in particular get into good positions they don’t even look up. Just a wild shot off target. Chair does the same when he plays. Anderson was the hope that he’d have the vision and quality to supply but he very hot and cold. Mostly fucking freezing. Not the end of the world still time to add to the squad and hope it highlights to the board the absolute desperate requirement for reinforcements. The central midfield are solid but neither can class themselves as offensively minded. |

There’s a time to play out from the back and against a team that’s going to press you hard for 90 minutes isn’t it |

Remembering we were playing a decent Premiership club. The second half was not as bad as some comments made. Chair is out injured. To be honest I was pleased with the effort put in. Frei looks much better. The new goalkeeper looked decent. Lets hope JDS stays.

Going to be a long old season again. No threat. I think we all now know 100% that the 10 shirt has no one in sight to wear it, we aren't creating anything. Simple as that. On this showing we need Ilias at 8 ASAP, but 10 is still a massive issue. Holding mid park has to be able to pass the ball forwards. That isn't happening either.
It's been obvious for a while that these are the two priorities, and we saw it demonstrated again today. |

i don't mind losing these sorts of games in preseason tbh. of course i'd much rather our players and tactics are perfect and we turn over brighton 5-0 but losing in the manner we did exposes the desperate need for players and perhaps a tweak to the style of play.

Apart from his skills in the attacking third, he was the only player in the squad who had the ability to retain possession and pass to a team-mate when under heavy pressure from teams who would always target him as our dangerman by putting an extra player or two on him. |
