Hugill and Wells up top together would be a feared strike force. Hopefully we see it a few times this season.

Hugill and Wells up top together would be a feared strike force. Hopefully we see it a few times this season. Westy was saying similar the other night. I think we'd need to sacrifice a little in the midfield though. You couldn't play with 2 up top and also accommodate Eze and wingers each side.

Not sure how the shape would work as I am guessing it would be a 442 of sorts if you wanted Eze in the team. Diamond would work out okay but then you lose the wingers.
Couldn't have Eze centre mid with Cameron and 2 wingers so then you start looking at a 352 with the width coming from the wingbacks.

Warburton doesn't play 4-4-2 so its a complete non starter. Plus the whole rationale beheind changing strikers was to bring in someone who could play one up. And If he was going to play 4-4-2 then he might well have re-considered how to approach the whole question of who was going to way 9 for us this season. Someone mentioned Hugill's record re championship goalscoring. Its not great: worse than one in three, ie 1 per 294 minutes. No one at WHU has ever had a clue why they picked him up. Seriously.

Was the idea to bring in someone who could play 1 up top Hal? I've never heard anyone from the club specifically say that. I thought the idea was to bring in strikers who were both capable at Championship level, and also motivated to be at the club!

I rate him Ginge has all attributes we missed
To think some were calling for him to be dropped two games ago
He could be immense for us this season. I would guess 15goals

Proper number 9. Mobile, strong, aggressive and confident. Great signing

Very good start for the bloke and long may that continue. Two decent lads up top now which can only make us better.

It doesn't harm his rep to have Wells, Chair & Eze operating in, and around him. That's before Manning and Kane/ Rangel chip in with their assists too. We will probably always be letting goals in the way we set up but if we only convert 50% of our chances we will be hard to beat.

How long since we had 2 gooduns up front? Bobby and Chas Bobby will always have THAT goal but glosses over his time here. Without that he would be remembered very differently by us.

Was decent the year we went up. Helped Charlie in a lot of games so as a pair they were useful.

We got bobby at wrong end of his career You say that, but towards the end of that season he was scoring a goal every other game. The man was on fire.

He has only converted 1 in 3 chances he has had so there is room for even more potential there.

Great he's doing well, beautiful, I didn't expect it and neither did WHU fans who also seem to be stunned and amazed. Could simply be that he's a confidence player in which case goals are like buses, one comes along and suddenly they're queuing up for you.
I'm still not convinced we have any striker cover worth a light and that - in reply to post one - was always one of my main concerns when big Smith went.

I saw on another site that West Ham can't recall him in January. The source was a QPR supporting Talk Sport employee.

Oteh has just gone out on loan to Bradford too. Looks like Wells, Hugill and Mlakar until January!

I hope you don't think this was a jab at you Hal? I, like you, was very against Smith leaving and didn't think Hugill would be an adequate replacement. It's more me saying well, maybe we dont need Smith that badly after all.
