Absolutely, Rod. The chemical is serotonin, and there's a ton of studies on it all. Yes of course it's not easy due to its addictiveness, as you say. But long term that really is the only way to preserve sanity. Not for the average person necessarily, but especially for people in high profile positions.

Players quite possibly read some of this stuff. Personally I would encourage a player rather than slag him off. Think of it in our own job. If a colleague or a boss just said to you “you are sh@t, fuck off”, is that going to make you better at your job or just low in confidence? Fickle thing football - he scored the winner against West Brom and he was the king of Loftus Rd. He's had 9 months to get fit. None of us are doctors/ sports scientists. He has that stocky build like Rooney who was pretty well shot at 32. Am not saying that is the case with Austin as simply don't know enough about it but we have no evidence that he doesn't try hard in training/ have a healthy diet etc. Maybe his body has just deteriorated and he can't get as fit/ fast as we would like him to be (and he would like to be - you can see he is frustrated with himself). In an ideal world all footballers would emulate Cristiano Ronaldo in respect of training obsessively, watching what they eat/ drink etc and then they can still be incredible athletes at 37, but that has to start at a very young age and probably also depends on physionomy. I know nothing about Charlie's lifestyle/ fitness regime in his younger days but maybe its simply too late for him to get to the level some are expecting. If he was still the Charlie Austin we had first time round we never could have afforded him. I'm as frustrated as anyone he and the rest of the team are not performing better but just think we should stick to the facts rather than coming out with wild claims (not from you but elsewhere on social media) saying he is taking cocaine etc. And encouraging him rather than attacking him might improve his performances - which is what I presume we all want.

This. It's obvious it's mobility, not fitness. Chaz was on a building site in his early twenties. No academy preparation for him.

I think earlier in this thread i posted about when his grandad died.
Grief is a strange animal.
If he is suffering from depression i fully understand as medication for this plays havoc with your body.
But do fans have the right to know what do you think ?

Fans absolutely don’t have the right to know, unless a player wants them too.

At times looked like he was trying too hard yesterday and that is due to frustration in not scoring BUT the amount of times he is calling for the ball and Barbet is pinging it way over him is untrue.
Get the ball into the box around the penalty spot and Austin will eat up the chances.

Quite simply, why the hell should a player have to divulge what medication they might be taking for depression. Or indeed, explain that they are suffering from depression in the first place,

He’s missed some chances this season he would a few years back taken with eyes closed. I don’t think he’s unfit I just think father time has caught up with him and there is no shame in that it’s life. His body has taken debate over the years and it shows now

Why if a player is having problems of the mind is it differrnt in this day and age. I thought society hadmoved on

If Charlie Austin, or another player for that matter, went public with a depression I believe Charlie Austin would still be Charlie Austin for us fans. A goal now and then would be enough.) He has given us supporters a lot to cheer for through the years.

Catch 22 of sorts.

Will Austin ever start a game again
Has he got stage fright or something
20 bags a week to sit on his arse not bad is it really
Some people can’t even afford to put the gap heating on

Of all the loan players we retained Austin was the one we should have walked away from
If we’re honest even last season he looked shot we just popped up in the right area on a few occasions never offered anymore then that imo
Should have walked away end of last season as a hero as if he still here next season playing as he has this crowd will turn and what should have been great legacy is tarnished

Ok agree why sign the prick then scored few goals last season but aside from that his overall contribution was as we’ve seen this season, let’s be honest that’s the truth the goals covered up the rest of his game/efforts But club and fans got carried away with turnaround in results when he came like he was some witch doctor. Bad business his return but can’t run them all was worth rolling dice but it’s not worked out

Got another year on his contract. It's handy for the racecourse and for London media outlets. He's not going anywhere.
