So Middlesbrough up next and they have scored the fewest amount of goals in the league only 11
Surely this is a game where if we’re solid and EVERYONE does there job that we get that first clean sheet. Got get this monkey off out back
I think to keep balance between attacking flair and being more solid I would just sit one DM in front of back four (prob Ball) and say all you do is shield back four/five dont worry about getting involved in attacking game just sit and mop up gaps left from WB getting forwards
Just need find a game plan which allows us to attack and defend
If we can’t nick a clean sheet against borough then when will we this season

Agree CCJ. We’re in a difficult period of six to eight games (starting from Brentford) where points will be hard to come by. But there a few games in that batch where in theory points can be taken Borough and derby standout games

Moreover, Barnsley at 2nd bottom are the only team to have conceded more goals than us this season. Either way the situation needs more focusing on.

Wallace needs to be dropped. We have lost every game he has started in by 2 clear goals. Unacceptable!

I'd take a win on Saturday over a clean sheet.... 5-4!

Prob is Cricks, as yesterday and Brentford Demonstrated, we’re not going out score teams every week so on the days we don’t score three (as has been needed) with solid defence we walk away with a point.
Letting in two or three a gam on assumption we reply with three is no basis to base a season or game plan on. Great while we’re winning but when goals dry up and Wins become defeats that excitement will soon die away
Actually think we’re better then that and have the players to be defensively sound just need the application. I think we have cracking little side in evolution just need crack defence and we’re laughing

One of the main problems this year is Rangel and Cameron are not performing well this has had a big effect this year two critical players for us
The midfield needs changing around it's not working we seem to play better with 5 in midfield and 3 at the back 2 up front
That's where most of our wins came from did they not even though our defence is really dodgy
All out attack is the way forward for us it seems Naki up front alone never ever works does it

Pugh and Amos need to step up and show us what they can do no point in having them otherwise
We could really do with a good winger atm oh yes Smythe and Shopido both sent on loan big mistake that both game changers coming off the bench
Wingers are so important when the chips are down even if they are young the change games

True that Smyth is on loan at Wycombe, but he has only played a total of 204 minutes in league one and been injured/out most of the season. What´s the club done wrong exactly?

Other then good first few weeks no one has said anything about Smyth. Attacking is not the issue

These few last matches, I feel that our midfield has lacked balance, maybe it`s because of injuries on players like Smith, Amos and Cameron. Another issue I want sorted out is that we seem to lack cohesion(passing) individually and ability to protect and cover for Manning and Rangel. Eze and Chair cant do all the running. Chair looks at times very tired and Eze is now more often than not closed down by the opposition.I feel that Pugh has to be given a run to see what he can do. He looks rusty ok, but that might very well mean he lacks game time? Amos is also a player I will see much more of, he played very well during his two or three matches before his injury...

This leads to a quandary; do you keep chopping and changing personnel and formations in an attempt to strike lucky or do you keep picking your best X1 (provided they're fit) and get them to where they are settled into a cohesive playing unit. It is acknowledged that MW wants some more players in key positions, as witnessed by his attempt to bring in a CB and his plethora of goalkeepers he signed. Trying to fill these positions with players that cost nothing is severely hamstringing those ambitions. The $64,000,000 question is, do we accept that we are where we are and carry on building in the fashion we are seeing? or throw caution to the wind and start splurging money on well established players to try to get promoted?

My comments were related to what we can do to solve the here and now situation, esoxlucius. IOW, What we can do to protect our somewhat fragile defence . Make no mistake about it, our current league position is acceptable and more than that obviously.

Make no mistake about it, our current league position is acceptable and more than that obviously. We may have a chance to keep a clean sheet against 'boro as they aren't prolific scorers but the way we play doesn't lend itself to keeping a clean sheet IMO. It was noticeable yesterday that moving Manning forward reduced the number of chances we created, something we have been good at this season.

Thought Manning played exact same role he had been and was not further forward?

Surely, just as one of the main objectives is to score goals, then following closely behind should be the intention not to concede them. It’s almost as if you’re not concerned by it.

Thought Manning played exact same role he had been and was not further forward? Yes, but we had an extra man in defense compared to last few games, and thus one less getting into the opposition box.

I think, as I explained above, we don't have the personnel that MW wants to play the way he wants so our inability to defend in the system has been exposed. As long as we don't get relegated I am not going to panic. This isn't all about what happens this season, but in how he develops the side in the coming seasons.

IThe Charlton- Preston NE match earlier today showed me how we should play; Every player on the pitch reverted quite easily to what was needed to close players down. I`m sure we`ll get there eventually, but not this season, think.
