Got to know quite well and was a decent bloke who took stick based on a supposed 100k a week wage. Was not on that much but unfortunately was judged on his salary and nothing else.

Earned thousands and thousands and thousands of dosh, maybe millions, in return for being over weight and shite, and he's still moaning and claiming to be a victim. Lol. Fulham away. Clint carrying him for a fraction of his wage. That said it all.

That said it all. 77 he was on good money but not the 100k a week that was reported. We bought him in January last day of window when he had not played for weeks. Sums up our recruitment and the way the club was being run at that time.

He was pretty shit during his time here but it's always interesting to hear the players take on things during that 2-3 period.

Some harsh comments on this thread.
The Samba signing was totally reflective of the utter shambles going on at the club at the time. He's explained very clearly in this interview what he was up against. I don't understand why people feel the need to throw around accusations of him being a money grabber etc. A poor signing, yes. But I don't blame the player at all in this case.

I'd have him in the same camp as SW-P as someone I wish we had never signed. The blokes a complete cunt and still hasn't changed now he is a manager at Fleetwood. IIRC Samba made his debut against Norwich at home and had Grant Holt bounce off him in their first tackle and Holt then proceeded to swap with possibly Wes Hoolihan as he knew he wouldn't get any change out of him. The Fulham game and onwards he just wasn't at the races and it was no surprised when we got our money back for him.

I spoke to Samba after the Villa game when we lost 2-1 and he was all for staying as long as Fernandes wanted him to. We got the 7.5 million back we lumped out and he went back to Russia.

I would have Barton as next manager with Clint. I honestly would give up my season ticket and be done with it. He is one of the worst people to ever infest our club.

Some guys judt love a cunt Like marmite. "He was a bastard, but he was our bastard", as the saying goes. When he played for us you'd have had him in the trenches next to you. For all his flaws he at least was committed to the cause and always gave his all, which the same could not be said of some of the other so-called mercenaries we had at that time. Granted that was his style of play anyway but he did a good job for Burnley too after he left us, which their fans also appreciated him for. As most now know, part of the reason he caused disruption in the dressing room is because he expected other players to give 100% too, which is what caused the tensions between him and Adel who, as we know, has never been that type of player. Yes of course he has a violent streak and anger-management issues, which of course there was no excuse for when they spilled over, but he who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.

That would be me then Nice post stan. Agree with all of that. Wouldn't want him back in any capacity whatsoever though.

I probably wouldn't want him back either DK and am certainly not here to defend him. More about providing some balance and nuance to the usual polarised views that surround him.

Ask Bobby Zamora, who was playing despite needing hip surgery, who took the brunt of most of his anger outbursts. Captain Twatter blamed everyone but himself for things going wrong during games and I am pretty sure that Zamora was giving more than Barton in a football sense. Rushing around and crashing into opponents, ending up in numerous sendings off, isn't commitment, it's stupidity and the episode up at City which resulted in him being exiled in France for a year whilst we paid his exorbitant wages puts him right up there with the fucking mercenaries at the time. The only thing he ever did right for QPR was to get Steve Black in, and even that ended up as a poisoned chalice.

In fairness the British core stuck around and all deserve credit Green - great season for him capped off with great display against derby. Clint being Clint Johnson and Zamora, with z giving us one of our greatest moments
