Rhodes? Maybe he was a one season wonder? Too risky imo. But we need another striker.

Rhodes was not one season wonder. He’s scored loads at Huddersfield and Blackburn but has tailed off last few seasons
Reminded me bit of Austin player who always found net that big boys would never touch

Even though Sir Les apparently vetoed the signing of him a while ago, it could be that he is on his way to us now. Who knows?

Would be a top signing and a good investment for the club. Just can’t see us spending that type of money this year!

I highly doubt we have bid 3mil for the player. Most likely offered them a crate of bucks fast and a packet of dry roasted.

The only way we would have that kind of money is if there is another big money departure (on top of Luongo, Goss and Wheeler) happening this week. I think we are actively trying to offload Leistner, and I think we may still have to fend off a bit of interest for Lumley!

Wait.
So we have Hugill and the Slovenian lad as the only two out and out strikers, and that's it, striker business over.
If someone could explain deeming a 1/2 surplus to requirements and then bringing in Hugill (worse than 1/3 at this level) and someone with no experience whatsoever, I'd be really interested to hear it.
Hugill is what, 27? Not really a youthful prosepct then. I suppose on the plus side he needs to shit or get off the pot as he did fuck all with the irons.

And hope! 😂 Personally, I liked Matt Smith. But if we are going to play a style that doesn’t suit him or warrant too much game time, then allowing him to go was the right thing to do. For him as well as us. Very excited about the new players. Lots of intelligent thinking by MW in those dealings. Almost as if there is a proper plan at last. As others have said, we have shipped out several players who have contributed to 3 abysmal seasons. Need to give the new boys at least 10/12 games before judging them too harshly. Fully expecting us to finish in the top half for a change.

BOS or EZE can play up there in an absolute emergency. I think it's clear now the Warburton will be going 1 up top. I'd like to see 1 more myself, but I ain't gonna panic if we don't get one! .....and both strikers brought in are far better players than Smith. Whether you want to admit it or not!

If you read comments of fans of Warburtons previous clubs, he only ever plays 1 up, so Hughill with Mlaka and Oteh as backup ?

Hal is a good poster. Not saying I always agree with him, but it's a view he's fully entitled to express and which he always does articulately, even if he's in a minority. Differences of opinion creates good debate as far as I'm concerned.
The bottom line is time will tell, but I'm personally feeling more confident going into the season now with the latest batch of arrivals.

To be honest Hal I totally understand your trepidation. I still think we need one more striker. On the bright side though, this time last week we had Oteh and Walker. 2 youngsters and nothing else up front. Also, with 2 in, it might give those 2 youngsters a chance at some point to make their mark, something I'm sure we can all get behind. Oteh hasn't had a very good pre-season but in the few games we saw him play under Holloway he definitely showed something didnt he? That won't have just disappeared. Under Warbs he may rediscover that, who knows? And the couple of times Walker played last season he looked handy. Both are still young and will develop, they just need a chance.
