A lot has been posted about our style of play, attitude since lock down, possible signings etc. What we lack is a leader on the pitch - someone to run the game, know when to pass or punt, dish out a bollocking or two, organise set pieces and generally set an example. All good teams have one.

Totally Agree Alan
We need a leader on the pitch in midfield and defence spine of the team
Need Roy Kean as a coach too to motivate people

Listening to this weeks podcast Flo Lloyd was allowed at the Luton game in a press role and commented how easy it was to hear what players and coaching staff were saying.
According to Flo only Dom Ball and Joe Lumley were vocal in encouragement amongst our players...the rest were silent.
Agree with your point about needing a genuine Leader on the pitch even if it means breaking our wage ceiling to get one.
Would much prefer to pay decent money to one player than pay two below average players modestly.

That’s why I suggested Pearson in another thread
We’re a pretty side we’re too nice, yes we can play nice football and on our day give any side a game but can’t imagine Anyone looks in the fixture list sees us coming up and says oh shit not looking forward to this.
Karl Henry and Dunne probably last time we had a proper savvy players on the pitch who knew the dark arts. That’s why would not be against Watson we need leaders and experience

Been saying the same mate. We've lost a couple of the leaders we had in Hall and Rangel in the last few weeks. Arguably our best leader is on loan in Germany.
It really only leaves Cameron and possibly Wallace as genuine senior pros in the squad. And neither of those are particularly regular starters.
It needs addressing. And we need more than 1 of them bringing in.

Phil jagelka and Ashley Williams are both out of contract but not sure on their legs or desire.

I'm not sure it is necessary to break the bank to get the right kind of player.... certain players are just vocal and like to organise... it's probably about finding the right character which brings us back to our scouting 'network'

Knows his stuff in this Alan that is for sure, Kenny, Hill, Derry and Helguson all brought in at start of 10-11 season and looked what happened. Helguson was going nowhere before NW came in and was outstanding for 2 seasons after. What we would do for Heidar right now.

Why do we need a leader? It sends out the wrong message to youngsters. It says I have to be confined to follow orders and not free to express my potential. Also leaders are above lesser folk and we all equal arnt we? It's not about leading, winning or losing,it's the taking part.

Proper leaders are usually the best players in the team - ie someone the others look up to and someone who is a proper example to the rest.
Not sure who really fits that bill for us. Eze is probably our star player but could he properly bollock someone ?

Early days but Mr Beale does not seem very passionate on the sidelines.
Also as I and many others have said we don't have a real leader/warrior on the pitch since Derry.
I feel you have to lead by example and at times last night some were just seemingly going through the game with no passion, commitment or actually playing for the shirt.
We as supporters have to play our part by not getting on the back of players to quickly or easily.Sadly it's a trait that has been with us for ages as a crowd.I am guilty as much as anyone.br] The only exception is Mr Dykes of which I am sure most agree, then again our board signed him😱

Imo, we are lacking a leader who leads by excample, mainly because this season current captain Stefan J is not the player he used to be. Of other players in the squad/team I would say that Jimmy Dunne has got at least some of the attributes to be a (future) leader.

Two plus years on and this thread as relevant as ever. Was thinking the same - started reading and didn't notice the date for a while. Nothing stood out until it got to the bit about us having a leader in Dom Ball. Stefan is supposed to be that guy: captain, older, former international - but he can get blown off the ball by a gentle breeze and seems incredibly quiet. I saw Chair getting animated last night but can't think of anyone else. When the manager also seems quite weak that's not great.
