It's a sad indictment for the direction football has headed in. If this carries on we could see a few clubs go down the pan, and no one is safe. Look at Bolton, big club, run like a shambles. It's frustrating the position we see ourselves in now but, if you look long term, in a few years time we could actually wind up being one of the better run clubs in the football league. And who'd have seen that coming?

I see Bolton and Bury are both unlikely to be able to even play the first game of the season next weekend as things stand. Wycombe have suspended ticket sales for their fixture with Bolton.
We may end up seeing League 1 contested with only 22 sides this season. What a shambles!

Didn't Bury go up last season as well? You're right mate, just checked. Promoted from League 2 as runners up. How on earth have they ended up in such a mess?

i hate the FA. clubs like bolton and bury are in massive trouble and what does the FA do? hit them with 12 point deductions. its an absolute joke, and then they have the nerve to say they care about clubs long term futures? yeah right, as if being given -12 points is gunna help them stabalize!

I would like see Prem take over EFL as EFL really are not fit for purpose. Like or hate Prem it’s run effectively

FA or EFL? just not sure who actually cracks the whip on that one. re The Times piece A “new breed’ of owners, Maguire says, who are “prepared to underwrite losses in the short term to reach the Premier League”, and for whom “losing £50 million a year is not an issue”, has led to “creative accountants circumnavigating FFP [financial fair play] rules” — as we have seen with Aston Villa, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday selling their stadiums and leasing them back from the club’s owners.this is kind of what I was getting at earlier in the thread. The media rights EPL money is now astronomical. That deal massively incentivises Championship overspend. Boards are going to chance their arm more and more, just like Villa did. re Stan's point, and playing devil's advocate here .Our problem was that when we got involved in trying to leverage our way up, the FFP regs were stricter. The fact that subsequently eased back does not mean we can take them to court with any confidence. They made the rules and we broke them. The fact that they changed them after that is neither here nor there. We could try and sue them, I just think that might be unsustainable. I suspect that when we accepted the sanction there was a whole raft of clauses attached precluding further legal involvement. Looking back, I do wonder - and did at that the time - about the arbitration process and the quality of representation we had back then.

Farcical. Hopefully that loophole will be closed It may not need closing, merely enforcing the section on fair market value. Apparently DCFC valued Pride Park at approximately 2.5 times it's market value. The Rooney sponsorship deal needs looking at too, that really stinks the place up.

They can only sell it to themselves once though mate and if they make a pigs ear of it(which they are doing a lovely job of) they are fucked

Heard this morning that Villa are having to justify selling their ground to their owners.... If that is something that is doable why have we not done it yet? Cannot so fuck all to us if half the league are at it.

The whole thing is a fucking shambles really.

And everyone used to say Bournemouth were model to follow. When they go down and they will they will drop through leagues That's surprised me a bit. How the hell have they managed to lose that amount? Trying to compete with the big boys with tiny match day revenues and much smaller sponsorship deals I'd imagine mate. They signed some shite for reasonably big fees over the years to be fair. Something in the game needs to change I think. When Madrid, Man Utd, Barcelona, PSG etc. are prepared to pay a player a half million quid a week, it makes bang average players believe they too deserve hundreds of thousands of pounds a week. Salaries and fees need to come back down to more sensible levels.
