I think it was a case of the BBC doing a Mark Warburton on Lineker and not renewed his Match of the Day contract beyond the end of the season.

Good luck to you Matty. The bloke's a dangerous 'midwit' - not intelligent enough to understand geopolitics (or anything that requires some measure of intellectual depth), yet arrogant enough to believe he has a valid opinion because he's read the Guardian.

Fair enough Hubs, it isn't that deep for me personally though. Decent presenter, I enjoy listening to some of his podcasts & aside from football I quite respect his opinions & that he stands by them (whether I agree with them or not).

I'd respect his opinions if they were based on some measure of actual research, Matty, but they're not. They're derived from the echo-chamber he inhabits. If he stood up for women's rights in football, for example, which so many women have been asking him too, I'd respect him. But he's far too scared of offending the woke lobby to do that.

It’s easy to preach to people how wrong they are and how u should live and act when your mega rich Don't disagree mate, just personally don't care - never understood why people care about what others say & let it bother them so much. What Lineker (and any other celeb) say about what people should & shouldn't do makes not 1 iota of difference to me.

People with a big audience can possibly affect how some people think, behave, and ultimately how they vote. So I think what he says could potentially make a difference in your life, even if not directly.

Don't have a problem with Lineker.
I never felt he was THAT great, but OK - certainly previous MotD presenters were more entertaining and had more personality.
I don't follow him on Twatter, but of course he's made the news over some statements he's made to his nearly 9 million followers.
Probably the biggest issue was his comment on what he felt was a cruel policy by the then government on deporting refugees to Rwanda.
If you have such a massive following, some people would say should use your presence and (possible) influence to affect things for the good. Then again, probably just as many will say that's abusing his position.
Personally, I think he's perfectly within his rights to post personal opinions on wider matters.
I don't think that's 'lecturing', it's just putting a point of view across.

MOTD will die now and probably be stopped in couple of years.
Soccer Saturday dead now and Soccer AM died after lovejoy left. You don’t need to stay up until 1030 to see goals and games when you can literally see them as they go in or on catchup tv.

Should just show highlights, no need for all the waffle. All the talking don’t change the results and people just want to see the game

BBC out of touch hierarchy will be licking their lips at the chance to fuck up another tried and trusted staple of our sport culture. There’s room for the chaos that is Sky coverage plus a well put together magazine programme for people who haven’t been sitting in front of the telly all day. BBC don’t believe in the adage ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ - they wrecked Question of Sport.

More proof, if any more were needed, that footballers live in a different world devoid of reality. Wrighty and Roy discussing the need for footballers to have regular scans to check for degenerative brain disease - ooo, “but where does the money come from?” I needed a scan a bit ago and wasn’t prepared to wait months so I paid. It was a few hundred quid but I’m not on £10k to £300k a week. Much more important to have another tattoo presumably.

Have not read the whole of page 7 but noted that lineker is no longer motd presenter.
I’m with Matty on the fact that he was a great host of motd, taking over from des lynham. Politics wise, the man is a hypocrite who took the £ to attend the World Cup in qutar. Have absolutely no respect for him but will miss him on motd

What annoys me is that women feel that they are being promoted however this is not the case , they are being used as a tool in the media and society to create a divide between men and women and they just do not see this I’m afraid.
I feel men and women are equal in every way Business / Relationships but I wish they could see that they are being used as a pawn in a very dangerous game to create discontent in a very woke society between men and women

He can be a bit of a knob but he’s no David Icke ffs. Lineker will be a hard act to follow because he’s played the game, knows it inside out, knows what it’s like to take a pen in front of 50,000 or score in the last minute and he can talk to players and pundits on their level. Why shouldn’t blokes have a blokey programme about a predominantly blokey side of the sport? If we get some token bird because BBC and Sky are trying to make everything gender neutral my Mrs would switch off before me.
