For no particular reason I was thinking about some of the highlights of my years watching Rs and these guys are right up there. Goddard was the more cultured one and Allen the cocky little shit who thought he could smash it in from anywhere, and usually did. Good days.

Loved the Currie/Waddock partnership under Venables.

Roeder step overs joy to watch. And his late arrival at corners... Now TV was a proper innovative manager.

Goddard was a very clever player and a good foil for Allen who was a born goal scorer.
Just goes to show that you don’t always need brawn to play up front with how those 2 played.

Selling them both in the summer of 1980 and replacing them first with Bob Hazell up front and then Tommy Langley seriously sucked.....

Funny enough Clive Allen has moved into the house next door but one to me, whilst his house is renovated. Managed to have a good catch up with him, about the old days. We were at the same school together, and I was in the same class as his brother, Andy, who was the only one in the family who never made it in football. And both of our houses back onto our old school. Small world.

OK Bees fan here but I used to go to your LR too. Loved Bowles, Thomas and Givens. Gilard and Clements etc. Francis Parks. What the hell has happened?

I wonder if Kellman can also become another “cocky little shit smashing it in from anywhere “ Exactly. Did you see the video posted on a thread here? Could be just what we need to fire us up. I'd never be worried about giving a youngster a try.

Yes I have seen the video Alan and it clearly shows hes not lacking in confidence ..I only hope that Charlie turns the odd deaf ear to MW rumoured restrictions on our players shooting from long distance.

MW rumoured restrictions on our players shooting from long distance. That's also a concern, if true. Might explain his "perfect goal" comment the other day.

Other than Dom Balls chipped effort against Barnsley I can’t think of too many efforts from distance that have been taken by our players this season in open play.

Don’t think we work positions to take long shots as in the attaching third we move ball so slowly we never get opportunity to have a crack as we’re shut down. Think we have had few go just wide of post but as said not enough efforts
But that’s me going off topic
