Watched a couple more of those old season review DVDs I found during the clearout and it got me thinking. We've moaned about Lumley and Kelly recently but we've had it so much worse. Youve got the obvious ones like Ademola Bankole, but what about ones who played more regularly for us. I present Simon Royce. What a dogshit keeper he was. Bloody awful.

In fairness to bankole I think he only played one game but what a memorable game it was

My memory is hazy but Royce didn’t stand out as being the weak link. Partly because the rest of the squad was so poor.

Lee Harper and Paul Barron were two really poor keepers in my time of watching us along with Derek Richardson and Jurgen Somner. Some of the better one's have been Camp, Dykstra, Smithies and Hucker and my top rated were Steskjal, Seaman, Paddy and Parkes in any order you like.

Simon Royce who is the goal keeper coach at Brentford now came in after the impressive Chris Day injured his knee badly, I seem to recall. The same Chris could have gone done in the QPR folklore as one of the absolute best keepers, I think?? Lee Camp took over for Day when he eventually left us for Preston in 2005.

Camp came in on loan during the 03/04 promotion season and kept Day out of the side. Day was an average keeper who was noehere near the higher end of keepers that played for us. Great save in the pkay off semi win v Oldham.

Seaman and Parkes i never saw live but agree with Stejskal and Paddy. Paddy for me the best keeper we've had since I started supporting in 93.

Sommer was a decent keeper but not for us at that time. Stesjkal was very underrated in my view. I thought Camp was top class for us.

Lee Harper and Paul Barron were two really poor keepers And yet it's not long ago he was inducted into the Forever R's. Odd one that, especially when there's true legends still not on the list. Tony Roberts not had a mention on this thread yet...😊 Big Phil Parkes was the best keeper for me Same for me, without question.

Jurgen Somner is up there as one our worst keepers in the 25 to 30 years. He was a shit Kasey Keller.

I remember Mike Kelly as a youngster(me not him). Dodgy is a word that springs to mind but that could be influenced by my elders at the time!

Agree thought Cerny was half decent. Parkes, Steskjal, Paddy and Seaman in that order for me. Seaman was decent for us but had his peak/best years at Arsenal. Steskjal was top top drawer in a very good side of that time.

Budgie Burridge was entertaining.
His career spanned about 30 clubs! Probably some kind of record.

Goalkeepers seem to divide opinion greatly. probably because we have been spoilt with a number of good ones over the years.
Jan Stejskal was purchased seemingly on a couple of decent World Cup matches..made a few mistakes after arriving which was picked up by the press..I never took to him from then on despite him improving from his early performances.
I went on Gillinghams forum recently when Lumley returned from emergency loan and their fans rated him and wanted to keep him...I think Joe is a decent keeper and would prefer him at number 2 rather than Kelly.

Steskjal was voted best keeper in the world cup in Italy.
