For a long time now I've had the impression that we're very similar to Arsenal, but with about 10% of the talent.
AFC have loads of possession, but they slow up their own ball. That reliance on a slow, high possession style game is where we also keep coming unstuck, albeit against a somewhat lower level of quality.... AFC also tend to jog into position, soft press (which is worse than no press at all), turn their backs at critical moments and generally give the impression that they're there for the taking. Any of this sound familiar?
The Mourinho THFC doc was very revealing. Sort the defending, and then from your own box to theirs in three/four passes on the deck. No fucking about. You have to play heads up and the front players need to get on the bike and into space. Sorted. I hope someone other than the cleaner at LR watched it and learned.

Did it again vs Wall. Lateral passes around their box, plenty of time for them to get sorted. Very few balls to turn them, front players not finding space, just wandering around with a defender on them.

One man sitting on a cool box who can't see it and will send them out to do exactly the same again on Saturday

Basically what Warnock did to us. Solid defence and Derry, Faurlin to cover in front. Made us difficult to beat.

So Arsenal have turned it round. We still look clueless.
They did this by doing exactly what we've been begging for for years, ie speeding up the transitions and a co-ordinated press (see also THFC).
Obviously we don't have quality youngsters to bring in to help make this happen here, but you could still transform the way we play.
It won't happen under this regime, and that profoundly depresses me.
