Maybe a thread for the vintage posters once again 😃
I only remember seeing prob four or five games on the plastic. But what were the thoughts of those that had to really watch the games week in week out
As I kid remember thinking wow this is futuristic

The partnership of Simon Stainrod and Gary Bannister.
Gary Bannister was very under rated at the time but for me was a natural goal scorer.
For me he seemed to get on the end of flick ons from Stainrod or punts up the pitch for one on one with the keeper and seemed to score every time.

Did players avoid sliding tackles?

I hated it. It was horrible. Same here. The bounce was too unnatural and sliding tackles were a complete no no due to the 'grass' burns. On the plus side, I remember Venables commenting at the time that it did force a players to improve their skills as it required better ball control to get the best from it. After a while it actually gave us a distinct home advantage as our players were far more used to it.

Luton always beat us on it,hence the real rivalry not like Chelsea. Kerry Dixon looked like he shedding like a snake one game on it. Keepers wore trackies. One team's fans tried to set it alight. More sand on it than the Sahara. Crowd use to chant boing boing boing.

Remember Alan Brazil scoring a winner in a night game for us, I was never really a fan of the pitch.

I hated it. It was horrible. This. It was an early one remember, probably better now. Luton beat us in the first game played on it. Coped with the bounce better than we did - which is somehow a typical QPR story😁

1-2. Allen scored a nice one. I remember we bunked into the Paddock. I Instantly thought yuck. Put up with it, but never liked it.

Can’t verify this obviously, although Bill might be able to if he was working there. Apparently, about 10 minutes before the teams were due out, the away team’s dressing room door would open and in slid a bucket of vaseline. Was told it was to get them worried about the effects of friction burns. 😂

I can confirm this, the burns that were inflicted were bad and some horrendous. That pitch was like concrete and the bounce was awful.

Here’s one from the plastic! Anyone here in the crowd Fantastic game and atmosphere. For the first half I was in the East Paddock, but due to the overcrowding ended up in the Loft. What a goal from Pizanti.
