To be fair, if Tom Carroll and 1 of Lyndon Dykes or Mac Bonne had worked out, we'd have had the right personnel. Easy to argue we were short with the benefit of hindsight. Don't think 2 players as good as Johansen and Charlie were available to us in the close season. Tarbs, when I say "I wonder if the club will learn from this", the point I'm making is you let players of the calibre of Wells and Hudgell leave and you simply go back to step one. Then the following January you end up having to recruit Austin and Johansen (for e.g.) to rescue the season, and it's Groundhog Day yet again. STARTING the season with the right personnel really need not be outside the club's capabilities. But I assume Tarbie meant the money wasn`t there?

No, I literally meant that Austin and Johansen (or anyone else of that quality), weren't available in the close season. Bear in mind they are earning over 90 grand a week between them. We've done very well to land them both.

infighting on the Bristol City message board also. Not surprised, club are a mess. Amount of money they've wasted is frightening. I can remember a few on here throwing a paddy cos we wouldn't match the fee and salary they tabled for Wells. Doesn't look good business now, does it?

I really wonder if the club will learn from this. START the season with the right personnel (like we have now) and you end up in the promotion spots. I don't think it would have mattered if they had been though Tarbs, we only went for them once it looked like we'd be dropping. I really hate to say it but I can see only De Wijs here next season but I'd rather have Field than Thomas/Ball, much rather have Johansen than Carroll and I don't need to mention the other option😂

To be fair, Wells and QPR were a good fit and he didn`t want to go there, but Bristol City as a club are not an automatic top six club imo. Dean Holden did reasonably well for them all things considered (injuries, expectations, history? etc).

Main difference between Carroll and Johansen is Johansen seems more willing to take a chance with his passing going forwards. He will play the 50/50 ball where as in similar situation Carroll would retain ball. Like both of them. Amos to come back too

If De Wijs is injury plagued is he really worth retaining?

I think both De Wijs and Field are nailed on to be here next season. Whether De Wijs is a sicknote or not remains to be seen. Worth a punt on a free in my opinion, looks a good player.
As for the rest, I believe Charlie is out of contract and will come here if we make an effort. He'll have better offers elsewhere, but he's made a few quid and genuinely seems happy at Loftus Road.
Johansen we'll only get it Fulham stay up. He doesn't want to uproot his family and wants to he playing every week. He's got a year left on 40 bags a week. If Fulham go do down he'll slot back in there.
Whether Carroll gets another year or not is up for debate. Probably no harm in giving him another year. Not breaking the bank and he does offer something.

I’m not sure Johansen fits in at Fulham next season even if they drop. They have added some decent players and are building decent young squad. Would be a bit part player at best

Only reason we've got Charlie is cos he wanted to come here and West Brom were happy to keep picking up the lions share of his wages.

3-0! Lumley in their goal? Warbs: “Joe is a top class goalkeeper who has had to watch Seny play very, very well. He’s had to be patient. “He works tirelessly every day on the training pitch and we saw his quality today. “I’ve got no problem using Joe at any time.”

'we saw his quality today' I can't recall he had anything difficult to do today. In fact he fumbled a catch at the end with Sinton or London dismissing it as 'taking the pace off'. I hope he's sorted himself out and I hope he comes again as the keeper we wanted him to be BUT I don't want him to keep Dieng out and I don't want opinion to be massaged by Warburton unnecessarily. Smacks of preparing to sell Dieng.

Lumley is out of contract at the end of the season isn't it?
Can't see a chain of events where he'd sign a new deal myself, even if we do intend to offer him one.

First time this season we've completely outclassed and dominated an opponent, that I can recall.

Chaz and Wells this season= Top six. . Fact is we can't afford the contract that either are on though. This is why its really important finishing in the top ten. Because it might convince the board that a little judicious investment could see them recoup handsomely. I think this summer will provide the clearest possible indication of whether we have any ambitions at all beyond stasis. Finishing within six points of the play offs may help the penny drop.

Warburton has done nothing. Loan players saved him. oh behave! He’s done nothing apart from sort out the defence, playing eye catching football, fifth lowest budget in the league, Dickie, Barbet, Field, Willock etc, Improved squad despite selling over £20 mil + of players. Improved league position. what on earth do you want more than that?

Warburton has done nothing. Loan players saved him. Absolute bollocks!!! He’s lost hugill, wells, eze, manning and had the disruption of bos acting the cunt all year and will still finish with a better tally than last year. Yes we’ve signed some quality in January but he’s still got to organise them, train with them and get the playing the way he wants. Bottom 6 budget and the mans done a fantastic job with the tools at his disposal. Credit where credit is due

But what would everyone be saying if we hadn’t got the loans in and the decline had continued to a very dodgy relegation scrap? Can’t rewrite history - we were awful.

Can’t rewrite history - we were awful. but thats 'what ifs'. like, what if guardiola had lost his last 15 games at city etc. fact is warbs has turned it around since that dreadful run and has won many of us including me back round as he's done a stellar job in 2021.

The majority opinion judging by the posts was that we had a poor squad but he wasn’t getting the best out of it. There were no signs of turning it around when we were in freefall. Even those giving him the benefit of the doubt were asking what we do in training all week. He’s a lucky bloke. I’d rather wait to see how we play next season to see if he really has learnt anything. I’ll be very pleased to be wrong about him.

Your mind is set you don’t like him therefore you will never give the credit and will look for an angle to criticise. You will come back denying that but it’s the truth
