I wonder if the main reason we are going for it this season
How much of this is down to Brentfords success
Have they in-directly done us a huge favour by going up
I def think this is a possibility
Dont think we would have signed all these players if not

I hope not. Should be making decisions based on what is right for the club not what teams around us are doing

However we are a completly difference club now as they and fulham will soon find out
Fans will also flock back to follow us again

I hope not. Should be making decisions based on what is right for the club not what teams around us are doing This is correct I think. A mate of mine who knows a bit told me half way through last season we were gonna have a go this season, so I doubt it has much to do with how Brentford did last season. I'd say it's a combo of the the FFP sanctions being behind us and the fact we are financially in far better shape than we have been in a long time. Also worth noting that a lot of other clubs in the division are in turmoil trying to balance the books. We are 1 of few clubs that can actually focus on building the squad they want rather than being dictated to by their financial position.

Should be making decisions based on what is right for the club not what teams around us are doing Then again Westy, look at Dave Mac's quote today: "Warburton’s brief when appointed was to replicate Brentford’s success in progressing on the pitch while developing players into saleable assets."Wasn't Gens just making the same kind of point? And isn't it inevitable to use their approach almost as a blueprint, considering their proximity, similar size and the fact Warbs used to manage them? If it's a successful model what's the shame in doing similar, without totally replicating?

Really ? you think we are looking at Brentford ? They have never been on our radar ! They will never ever be rivals to us . They are a small club riding high at the moment , they will come crashing down ! And if they don`t good luck to them , the only rivals they have are fulham and unfortunately for Brentford ,the geezers at Fulham who understood the derby with Brentford have been replaced with Rupert and Tarquin ! Unless you happen to be a Rangers fan from Hounslow , i dont think we need to concern ourselves with Brentford one way or another

Funnily enough I don't recall a real rivalry with Chelsea back in the late 70s early 80s. I think it's a bit more recent than that.

The rivalry debate is a funny one, as it really does depend on your age.
I am 32, and my bro is 42. Growing up, he made it clear that we hate Chelsea and that stuck with me. Growing up, Brentford would be giving tickets away for a £1 and most 'Chelsea' fans my age would go there instead to watch them. Always in League 1, 2 and always seemed a club that's a second choice club.
Having said that, I think my nephews will grow up disliking Brentford and Fulham as they have actually seen us play them. We play Brentford and Fulham more often so I think the rivalry naturally grows and the younger generations wouldn't understand why we hate Chelsea when we have other clubs nearby, that we play more often.
