Hmmm, this delay over Gray makes me wonder if he's not agreed exit terms from Watford (wants more money from them for his contract buyout) or personal terms with QPR (want more money from us for his wages).

You say mercenary. Who would turn down being on £80k when you knwo you aren't worth that?!
It's a no brainer for me, to bring him in. Positive spin ... he'll be on the wages we want to pay, we won't be breaking the bank for him. Not played too much football recently so should be hungry to play and not have niggling injuries. If we get him on song, then he's a very good 3rd option to play. If he doesn't do well, then we havent paid anything for him.

Don´t think he would sign in our current wage structure if he was a proper mercenary. I am sure he would be able to squeeze out a better deal somewhere else these days. IMO he will only sign for us if he wants to play, and finish on a high note, instead of being remembered like a gifted boy who wasted his talent collecting splinters in his arse. |

Turning down money that would keep most clubs afloat for a decade or more, because of the vanity of PSG's owners - a corrupt, slave-sponsoring state who just stick 2 fingers up because 220m Euros+ means nothing to them than loose change down the back of the sofa. Genetics, injuries, diet/lifestyle, all plays a part. Ronaldo is a specimen, he's probably got a good couple of years in the tank. James Milner is another like that. Austin unfortunately seems to losing his legs quite young to me. He can adapt his game I'm sure. As I said above, his finishing is still top drawer. |
