Seen whispers but nothing official of some kind of takeover possibly happening by the dudes that own PSG. Anyone seen anything about that? I mean, I don't think it's remotely likely, but even if it were to happen, we wouldn't be able to spend anything anyway, so what's the point?

Moody sponsorship is the way forward Ginger.

Well, 'the dudes that own PSG' also own Manchester City ie Qatar PLC. For that reason alone, expanding their football portfolio in England would be massively complicated - to start with some other corporate entity would nominally need to hold the majority share.

I read somewhere that they are looking at Aston Villa, QPR and another sleeping giant: Nottingham Forest.

we're a small club with a proud history True enough Old, but OTOH it would be nice to at least compete on a level playing field which, at present, we are a long long way from.

True enough Old, but OTOH it would be nice to at least compete on a level playing field which, at present, we are a long long way from. We have played less than 25 seasons in the top flight in our history of 132 years. If we're going to operate there again then the best thing we can do is to do it properly. Football is unrecognisable from the game we first encountered, but the fundamentals haven't changed: it's 11 men vs 11 men. Let's get our scouting system back to where it should be and do things the QPR way. It may take longer now than it would have done in the past but we'll get more pride and satisfaction out of it than we will if we buy a place. All fair points Old and yet on a recent poll 46 of our fans out of 50 voted FFP to be anything but 'Fair': www.wearetherangersboys.com/forum/general/qpr-fans/2499574-poll-is-financial-fair-play-actually-fairWould you concur with any of their reasons given in that thread, or at least concede that something is markedly awry with the present system?

City's owners are the Al Nahyan family from Abu Dhabi so not sure the city owners are looking to own another club. The Al Thani family for Qatar are the best bet for any takeover. Wishful thinking but that is the family we can hope for.

The only interest in us would be as prime West London real estate. Frying pan to fire. Careful what you wish for.

Surely there are easier ways to get property and land in West London instead of buying a football club

If owners want to get shot we could be a bargain. No bargains in London for land.

The Qatari's like a sporting project and have invested huge money into horse racing both by buying racehorses and sponsorship as well. Not out of the question that they would not buy a footba team in London. I am not sure it would be us though

Yes maybe bargain to purchase but then football clubs are not cheap to run nor do many make money
These guys are minted if they want land they will just buy it in my opinion no need to do it via and burden themselves with a club too.

A well balanced view OldR. I think most of us can agree that the FFP misnomer in its current guise needs reform to the extent that it at least lives up to its name.

Just to clarify.
The Qatari football interest is vested in PSG, the UAE in City. Despite strained diplomatic relations, the two still hold investments in common...
Since the Al Thani (Qatar) interest is outside the UK they could aquire the majority shareholding in an EFL club. Uefa rules forbid two clubs in a European club competition, such as the Champions League or Europa League, being directly or indirectly controlled by the same entity. This would not be a problem if QSI bought a Championship club but if the club became successful, the Qataris might have to structure the ownership through a different vehicle than QSI.
Just not sure why we would be on that agenda - assuming it exists. The best reason would be a pre existing linkage between current and putative owners, and that is certainly possible, but it isn't a lot to be going on.

Qatar Park Rangers has a nice ring to it. Can build us a superbowl out near heathrow. Would rather be a standard lge 1 or 2 club.

It must be the challenge of turning a league one club with an 18K capacity into OT; Bernabau; San Siro etc

Don't really think this rumour has legs to be honest. I believe it started purely out of speculation that the Qatari's may be looking to buy an English club.
People talking about FFP. One thing to bear in mind is the Qatari's own PSG. Whilst significant investment would be tough due to the FFP laws, free loans of emerging players would be very possible.

Interesting. Kind of makes sense. The Championship would be a good league to send a young player coming through the ranks. And they'll want a club without any immediate ambitions to be competitive at the top level to prevent any conflict of interests.

Wouldn't want them anywhere near our club. Often wondered if City fans asked themselves the same question when they became a wholly owned subsidiary of the UAE, if anything an even more questionable regime than Qatar. Neither have glowing human rights records.
However, there is an argument that integrating oppressive regimes into Western culture has a liberalising effect. Then again, America has a problematic human rights record. Ethics is a bit of a minefield....
