His all round game is improving rapidly which is fantastic. Saturday his hold up / link up play was much better. Defenders are scared shitless of him n all the absolute brute lol glad to read this. Just need level of consistency and actual outcomes now.

Yea West he is still very "raw" when he gets the ball in & around the box (real lack of composure IMO) - but hoping that will come in time.

On his showing so far he'll get a few goals for us this season. Just need the others to start finding the net.

Armstrong is not a forward in fairness to him it’s as clear as day. What exactly is his position?

Armstrong is not a forward in fairness to him it’s as clear as day. What exactly is his position? Winger for me mate. I like the look of how he's progressing. Still needs to work on his fitness and continue to boil his weight down. There has been a marked improvement though, he's now a 60 minute player rather than the 20 minute player he was last season.

We're good at those Can he add goals to his game? It really remains to be seen...GA plays with a lone striker which I'm not sure helps him either. If he had true strikers instinct why didn't he bury that cross Smyth* put on a plate for him yesterday. He was nowhere near it. Yes, his game is developing and improving, just not yet in the scoring dept. Jury still out basically. *Now there's a winger!

I would like to see it again: but It looked like he kind of nurtured a knock, and tried to run it off him, just a few minutes before he got at least two chances to score and consequently blew both of them.

Armstrong is not a forward in fairness to him it’s as clear as day. What exactly is his position? think he’s a winger or wide forward in a three. I don’t think he has the composure to be an effective CF and I’m not sure you can coach that. He’s either not in the right place or when he is he cant get a shot off as he wants a touch. Think yesterday really confirmed that to me. He’s 20 now and still seems frightened in front of goal. He makes all the mistakes of Dykes without any of the criticism. Look at Ferguson at Brighton has had the same route in Irish football is 2 years younger at 18 but he’s effective In a far superior division getting a hat trick yesterday against a champions league side. He’s in his second season in prem And already scored 14 in 33, Armstrong is 1 in 29. He don’t lack effort so there is a role for him but he would be more effective out wide bullying a FB. In that role he might Nick 2 or 3 a season. Could be a younger Mackie or BOS. I do feel for him as if we as a club genuinely think he’s going be a forward just like Kevin Gallen said last week he should be out on loan for a full season and told go and get 15 goals but our scouting system is so shite he’s thrust into the front line, bigged up as the saviour when all he currently really brings to the table is a lot of effort for 50mins. He’s been royally mugged off by the club in his development. Out wide I think he could hold his own now so that’s where I would play him but in the absence of any credible alternatives suspect we will see more of him down the middle. I know I’m prob in minority of 1 with this view but that’s honestly what I see when I watch him.

out and out striker for me assuming he gets the right coaching. he gets into position, leads the line well and terrifies defenders but lacks the finess to play as a winger imo.

Whatever he is the club seems intent on playing him up the middle. At least he scares defenders with his pace but we need to get players around him to profit from any panic or mistakes he causes. I haven’t seen Dykes frighten a defender in three years.

Well Ferguson has pulled out. Not sure they’re in same league but hanging around decent players can only do him good.

He's got the pace and power to be another Cyril Regis or at the very least a Mark "Smokey" Gall. Give the lad a bit of time.

its good that we're trying to tie him up now rather than waiting until next season like we have a habit to do.
i've always been a big fan of his and think he'll be a prem player one day.

Could go either way. He has raw attrirubtes but will he get his fitness right? Will he sort his technique out? Will he calm down? Could easily fade away and not become more than a lower league player. Or it could click and he carries on working his way up. I hope you're right! But definitely done enough to warrant a new, better contract and it protects us as well.

I watched the first 45mins of the game last night, Armstrong missed 3 very good chances but was still very much a thorn in San Marino side.
The highlights for me were his great run and accurate cross which provided the first goal and an excellent leap resulting in a header on target which the Keeper did well to keep out.
I hope he puts his shooting boots on for the Sunderland game this weekend as his 3 misses looked bad and could easily knock a youngsters confidence.
