The right manager could build another team around that lot to challenge again next season

i think dickie and chair could arguebly be added to that list tbh.
dickie wasn't at his best but was still pretty good imo, better than some of the dross we've had in years lol.
same with chair, 9 goals for a player only 8 inches tall is pretty good. if he can release the ball earlier then he'd be a great player at this level

Just to expand on the theme of the thread:
There's been a fair amount of doom and gloom the past few weeks, with many saying they fear for us next season. But to put a positive spin on it, we do actually have a very good spine, as the OP, Corbs and Shania mention. The point being, the right manager has the opportunity to actually progress us and it's a chance to to learn from the mistakes of this season.

some players will be off, i suspect chair and dickie even though i bigged them up. i don't think we'll sell dieng as walsh is no where near ready yet.
don't really want gray back personally, he'll want big wages and is 30 years old. would rather we went after someone younger.

I would say hes capable of scoring goals, but the team needs to be set up for him as he offers very little else for the team in the way of holding the ball up or as an aerial threat. I read elsewhere that the board wanted to send him back in the Jan transfer window and if that’s true I doubt if he will be coming back. |

But to keep the thread on track, he is only one player (from the core), and yes he would absolutely need replacing if we can't keep him. |

Maybe if some of Willock,Dieng, Dickie or Chair are sold in the upcoming window then Eustace could be seen by the owners as a Caretaker Manager capable of leading the team into pre-season training. Here's Warburton's season finishes with us: 2019/20: 13th 2020/21: 9th 2021-22: 11th His first season he improved on Schteeeve's 19th - progress Second season, further progress finishing 9th. Third season we regressed finishing 11th. But overall, still two steps forward, one step back. Sell Dickie and Chair if we really have to. Both would be a lot easier to replace than Willock and Dieng. If we sell the latter two it makes the prospect of season-on-season progress very much harder. |

*** assuming he gets his fitness back We still have all these players minus Gray, so things still looking hopeful now we have the new manager. Some on this thread were pessimistic we'd retain Dieng and Willock but with Beale's arrival perhaps there's now more chance of keeping them? Clearly a striker (or two) remains top priority though. |
