Some good examples using freeze frame photos on the high defensive line against Swansea.

Agreed. If your CBs are having the bulk of the ball then you're doing something wrong and they are doing something right.

Agreed. If your CBs are having the bulk of the ball then you're doing something wrong and they are doing something right. Probably noticed that as one of our worst features during videos of those 20 odd matches post Jan he had to sit thru under Warbs. In fairness to Beale I think he has the balance about right, he does want to play possession football but he has rightly told the likes of Johansen, Dozzell and Field that knocking the ball five yards back to your centre half while you are facing your own goal and not even looking up to see if there is a progressive pass on is not good enough - you have to look to move it forward.

One thing I noticed in the Swansea game which haunted me during the Warburton era was the lack of movement in MF as the ball was being passed back and forth across the backline. If there's no attempt made to lose their markers who the fark are the defenders supposed to pass it to?

Remember Nasser he was def stat man Was he annoying like Pinky though ? on a par. Both had ridiculous levels of obsession about their specialist subjects. On Occasions i actually agreed some bits Nasser said but just disagreed with him on purpose as I knew he would bite and it was fun setting him off and 77 steaming in. wrong I know but when home bored entertaining.

Have been critical of some Beale decisions but what I do like is when he gets it wrong he isn't stubborn the way some managers are and he is prepared to change it:
Playing Field more defensively and Stef higher up the pitch - most fans could have told him that was the right way round so the original formation was a bit bizarre but fair play, he has changed it and got the best from both, esp Stef
Dropping Dykes. Thought he might persist but again has shown flexibility. Dykes coming on as sub prob feels less pressure too so might be the way to work him back into form. Not convinced with Roberts as a number 9 and think he might be better as a right sided number 10 alongside Willock and Chair. But Beale needed to try him there. Maybe time to try Bonne up top now?
Also says he wants to try three at the back - think that could be an exciting option with our two wing backs

Could also add he has learned from over-playing key players - now substituting the likes of Willock and Chair and using the squad much, much better

The ball stayed upfield much longer with Roberts, just need to work on what they do with it. Willock’s goal shows the way. Early days so I hope he doesn’t revert to Dykes until it’s been well tried.

i think he's turning out to be quite good so far, what i do appreciate is that he rapidly learns from his mistakes and adapts. his game mannagement is excellent too.

Was not impressed with Roberts up top never thought it suited him at all snd he could not get in the game, shadow of the player getting ball deeper and carrying it. I think Bonne deserves runout at the top

Is Willock another Adel for us this season? Willock is without a doubt a game changer, as was Adel. Difference is, I can see Willock going in the not too distant future, possibly January. It didn’t feel like that would happen with Adel in his prime because we looked premier league bound anyway and the fact that other coaches etc knew what a head fuck he could be at times. Selling Eze was difficult to take but losing Willock would be a huge blow for us.
