Willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt myself. Pretty underwhelming scoring record, but apparently played 10 rather 9 at Leeds and more than half his appearances for both Leeds and Wales are off the bench.
Like I've said earlier on this thread, we probably can't afford anyone with a proven scoring record at this level or higher.

think he'll be a good signing tbh. he shows hunger at least by dropping down a division to play for us. he's versatile up top so its good to have cover. do we need another striker just incase? or will dykes, roberts, armstrong and even willock be potentially enough?
there's a lot of whatifs there.

They don't mention any permanent deal option, which is a shame.

We are being linked with Shane Long. I don't know how accurate the reports are. Can't say that's a signing that excites me much I'm hoping that we have a few strikers on our books now with enough to prove to bang a few goals in this season.

Willock has a very similar goals per game tally as Roberts, same with Chair who has only a slightly better GPG ratio.
What is preferable on loan, an 19 or 20yr old with little to no mens football under his belt or a 23yr old that Bielsa kept playing.

Him, Willock and Chair switching positions - esp if this guy can play on the right - behind one target man might work. Lot depends on who that target man is.

Well, he’ll be wanting to do well to secure a place in the Welsh World Cup squad. Can’t think of much better motivation than that.

yeah statements like that make me nervous. The one thing we don't need up top is a hybrid, because the other 10 on the park aren't the Spain of Busquets, Xavi and Inniesta. They're from Poundland. We need to remember that and cut according to cloth.

No, Bonne is not committed. Needs sorting though especially if Roberts does turn out to be a bit injury prone. Not sure if he's injury prone. Impression I get is he's just getting his fitness back following his pre-season injury; that's why he's not playing full 90 mins yet.

Roberts was regularly injured at Leeds and was one of the main complaints from their fans,.Towards the end of last season he suffered a similar serious injury to Willock iirc.
I would guess he’s one those players that is injury prone, I would be concerned that playing him instead of Dykes he would break down quickly

At his age let's hope he can put those behind him.

Not great in a striker who is bound to get roughed up

Tend to agree on some posters opinion on yesterdays match day thread that Roberts does not look the obvious answer to replace Dykes up top.
I’m wary that he’s possibly injury prone and may not sustain the buffering he would receive from 2 CBs.
I’m aware it’s probably too early making both assumptions that he’s not a 9 and he’s injury prone, so why not deploy him in the position he’s played primarily for Leeds. It’s also the position MB felt why Richards was needed.I.e being able to drive forward with the ball into the final third.
For me he first needs to show he can last 90mins over 3 or 4 games before being thrown up top and no better place to start than the normal position he played previously in MF.

Hope we have only an option and not an obligation to buy?
Took a couple of mates yesterday and who support premier league clubs and they were just laughing at how shit he was: knocked off the ball so easily, complaining to team mates when he can’t control the ball himself, lazy attitude, incapable of holding the ball up.
He isn’t a 9 that’s for sure and as a 10 he isn’t half the player of Willock or Chair.
Premier League? You are having a laugh.

Two poor games in a row.
Really wanted him to succeed to keep Dykes out the side. Unfortunately hasn’t taken his chance so far.
Got good feet but needs to make sensible passes sometimes not silly flicks and tricks.

There is a player in there if played right position and coached well. We are doing with him what we have done many previous players and playing him out of position.
If we were not so shit up top it’s a shoot out for two positions from three players between Chair Willock & Roberts. Actually would probably freshen us up as you could rotate all of them giving each little bit of time bench so there not run into ground like Willock was last season.

lots of potential imo which is clear to see and even yesterday i thought he had a few good passes in him - although he was bad overall. he needs to be brought down to earth a bit as he plays as though he's doing us a huge favour by blessing us with his presense. very lazy and holds onto the ball for far too long.

Wasn't he being played as a false 9 lite yesterday, as opposed to striker? So effectively it was a front 3?
