He's a violent, bullying narcissist and spread utter poison in the Rangers' dressing room. The problems in the dressing room were largely a result of the other mercenaries recruited at the time, all of whom contributed less on the park than Barton. If you're looking for someone to blame you need to look hard at who was responsible for recruitment on and off the park at during that period. You're absolutely right, there were a right bunch of money-grabbing mercenaries at the club, and parasitic agents (Hughes' in particular). But Barton was the rotten apple in the dressing room and (allegedly) cost Warnock his job - and so we got f*cking Hughes. Greedy, life-sucking leaches they may have been, but Barton has been sentenced twice for assault (once 6 months, also 4 months suspended) and that side of his character kept finding its way back into his game, whether as a player or (seemingly) manager. I don't see that kind of violence as doing a good job for us, it has absolutely no place in the game. |
