This is probably the worst standard of referees I can recall in a long time.
Oliver probably the only top level one we have off top of my head.
I used to like clattenburg but he was kind of hounded out and went abroad.
Do we even have a rep from UK at the WC we never last time round

i saw an interesting video documentary on refs a few months ago.
apparently the number of people applying to be a ref is dropping year on year and many more refs at grass roots level end up leaving entirely as they receive just as much abuse from players in those leagues as they do in pro leages, probably worse tbh lol.
the FA really have to scrape the barrel for it imo. i've always thought that the FA should headhunt former pros, failed youth prospects and non league players for ref training. people with extensive experience in the game who are fit, know players' tricks and who will also have mutual respect and common ground with the players they're refereeing. plus doing that would also be a route for players to stay in the game, especially in regards to youth players.
the standard of refs has absolutely plumetted even in my short life so something needs to change.

Was chatting the FA ref who was doing my boys game Sunday as I was running the line. I said do you get much stick he said the junior games are actually worse then the adult as loads of mouthy parents on the side with opinion. Said ladies games are breeze as everyone respectful. Also said adult Sunday league is ok if you’re in control from off and explain decisions but can go off.
I can imagine stick they get as when I’ve run the line I’ve got into verbals with patents over offside and throws. Two times had argy bargy with other parents whilst I’ve been watching.

I've been a ref 18 years . I guarantee every fortnight it's like looking after kids, moaning , diving , accused of cheating or being bias at least 20 times a game, fighting, squabbling , players reffing the game for you. I could go on
Reffing is all about angles , you can only give what u see but try telling that to 5 or 6 blokes shouting at you. Try getting a ref it's near on impossible in men's football
