Goal 14 in that vid should have been disallowed and goal 4 looked like a pass that went wrong. Roberto Carlos' goal is amazing though!

Was watching the game live. In Le Tournoi against Barthez. That long run up and then the replay from behind Carlos showing the bend 😲

What I want to see is someone wearing old skool boots with the old skool leadweight laced ball - the one that delivered instant senility if you headed it - and watch them try to bend that fucker.
Point is there what we're seeing in Stan's upload is the result of technological development and player adaptation, not increased skill levels.

Agree in part - give today’s players toe caps and laced balls and no, they wouldn’t be able to do it, but players have improved their skills, their fitness and strength, plus they are prepared to innovate. Back in the day anyone trying something different would have had an old git of a manager to impress and then get kicked to death on Saturday. Players like Best, Marsh etc. changed things and I’d love to see Bowles as a modern player. He wouldn’t be able to pop in the North Pole for a lager on the way to the game though😁

i read that brian clough was an innovator when it came to training, diet and fitness. he was one of the first british managers to have mandatory rest days throughout the week and didn't like playing people unless they were 100%

One of the most consistent scorers of spectacular freekicks was Juninho Pernambucano, who played in Vasco da Gama and Lyon for most of his career. Amazing technique.
