Yeah, this thread has descended into some ugly reading. No justification for any racial slurs. Worries me how many try and trivialise this type of thing when it's clear to see how damaging and divisive it is to our society. disappointing Tarbs but can only assume generational but an eye opener

Your right generational,I grew up where it was the norm. I try not to but sometimes in a stressful situation it just surfaces. It's a problem how do you stop something that you have done in your formative years and just change with the blink of an eye?

See I believe most if not all who have attended football have at some point crossed the line.
Especially some on here that give it large at times including me.

never called anyone anything racist aside from one of my best mates at school but we had a very dark humour inspired relationship and would both try and push the boat out as far as possible.
in general i've never thought of someone in racist terms, i've thought of plenty of minority people as cunts but would never bring race into it. that's just weak and embarrassing thinking imo, and hypocritical too as i have black and muslim friends so its disrespectful to them. plus how can i, a half way pillow biter, jump on another minority for being a minority.

Good example Bill. I went to the Reading game with my estranged 68 year old father the other week. Early doors, he calls Andy Carroll a "fucking poof" at the top of his voice. I told him you can't really say that type of thing anymore.
He'd not been at a game since before COVID. He struggled to get his head around the difference between the word poof and other derogatory terms. But after a bit of explanation that any slurs with regards to somebody's sexuality aren't OK these days, he just called him a "fucking shithouse" for the rest of the game and we all had a good time! 🤣

Diff generations have seen diff attitudes towards it. Personally grew up from baby with all creeds so never known any different. Hence I don’t look at colour it’s personality.

So none of you have done this in your life ever? Honest question. Honest answers please. No, never. The thought never even occurred to me. Personally grew up from baby with all creeds so never known any different. Hence I don’t look at colour it’s personality. Exactly my experience too and I grew up in the '70s when racism was more overt in Britain. For some background - I am white but also an ethnic minority and 2nd generation immigrant to the UK, so perhaps I have more empathy with the issue, even if on a subconscious level. Have been on the receiving end of it too.

Think you need to re read my post you prick Appreciate it's an emotive issue Jimmy, but don't think there's need for the name-calling. Vespa isn't a prick. He posted it late at night, perhaps after a drink or two, and perhaps wasn't fully aware of all the facts surrounding this. So I'd prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt in the first instance.

Fair enough. The condescending, patronising trivialising of racist language from one of our own fans didn’t read well for me. Whatever time of the night it was it was a shitty sarcy comment. Anyway water under the bridge. 👍🏼

I think if Mr.Klopp had been in our dugout he'd have had a bit of fire in his belly after that one. Being cool is one thing, but we need to be a bit harder and a bit smarter. Have to be bad cop sometimes, on and off the park. Hope Mick gets that.
