The John Eustace / Matt Gardiner reunion.
Struggling to call this one. We rarely draw and I can't see us losing, so going for an away win.

Do their fans still say “Who” when opposing subs are announced and made?

Decent side Brum. Surprise package so far for me. Agree with hits and would take a draw.

I am sure I recall going there years ago (might have been on a Boxing Day?) and when we made a sub the whole stadium in full voice gave it the "who" - was pretty good tbf to them lol

Got to be looking to win this but, would not be upset with a draw Ditto. I hear people say how they're doing well, I really don't think they are tbh. Sat in 15th with 5 wins from 16. Don't get me wrong I know they're a mess off the pitch so expectations are low, and they're no mugs (nobody in this league is) - but I expect us to be beating Birmingham. Wouldn't be too down heartened with a draw though.

It was certainly my perception they were doing better and have given a few of the more fancied teams a good game. I would still take a draw though. Hopefully see Willock back, at least on the bench.

Any word on Willock? Would be nice depending on how the match is going to maybe try Dykes and Armstrong up front first half to rough them up then second half bring on Willock and Roberts and have them and Chair running at them from deep.

Not sure if anything more recent, but a couple of weeks back I am sure Beale said they are targeting Norwich or WBA for Willock return, so suspect Friday may be a bit too soon.

Hi, I'm a Birmingham City imposter! Firstly well done with the season you're having. It's refreshing to see a team doing well that hasn't got the riches of any recent parachute payments. It gives hope to the rest of us in the division and I hope you continue to do well (except against us of course) lol. I'm too old for away games these days but I used to love coming to your gaff and some pre-match beers in the Springbok and chatting to you lot, who were always a friendly bunch.
Anyway, regarding the fans shouting who? when an opposition sub comes on (It's more of a whhhoooooo? by the way), yes it was us who started it in the 1990's, straight after the substitutes name was announced on the tannoy. For a laugh the announcer then repeated the substitutes name. He got away with it for a while until the infamous Karren Brady eventually put a stop to it, saying it was disrespectful to both the player and their club. A little good humoured banter obviously showed how out of touch she was with real supporters.
By the way, anyone going to the game on Friday night please be aware that anywhere inside of the inner ring road (i.e to the right of the road from the A38(M) is now a clean air zone so if your car doesn't fit the criteria you will impose a fine of £8. There's usually plenty of parking to the left of the ring road so you should be okay, especially with the smaller attendances we get these days.
All the best boys and girls
Bob

hi bob. what do the fans think of eustace as the manager? from the outside looking in he looks like he's done a very good job in steadying the ship and making birmingham into a competitive side rather than one that always fucks up.
many fans including myself thought eustace would have gotten the job here after his tenure as our assistant. i don't want birmingham to do well on friday but given that i'm only 29 i remember birmingham being the epitome of stable midtable premier league side. you used to have a real solid team back then. i always had a softspot for liam ridgewell and mcfadden for some reason lol. hopefully birmingham can push on this season.

Your first sentence is spot on mate. Our fans think Eustace is doing a great job. With the gradual demise of our club in the last 11 years since we beat Arsenal in the LCF our expectations each season have gradually eroded and our hopes for this season were to avoid relegation (we were the bookies 2nd favourites for the drop). We've had 8 managers in that time and Eustace was just another. We'd heard he'd been well thought of at your club and he has only said good things about his time at QPR so this gave us hope. My club is on its knees, skint, shit owners, a ground that's falling down, and a very small squad. Eustace came in and was a breath of fresh air. He made no bones about the job in hand and that there'd be bad times as well as hopefully a lot of good, but he galvanised the squad, made some shrewd signings, simplified the tactics, and garnered a tremendous team spirit. He's got the team tight and well organised, hard to break down but at the same time playing some skilful attractive football. We outplayed Blackburn on Saturday and a lot of their fans were saying we were the best team they'd had there this season. Our main problem is we often struggle to finish the chances we get. We are having to rely on loans, and luckily we have some really promising youngsters, including Jude Bellingham's 17 year old brother Jobe Bellingham, who will probably come on as sub against you on Friday. I doubt he will be as good as his brother, but he still looks quite a prospect. So we're enjoying our time at the moment but mindful that it could go pear shaped. You been a fairly average Championship club for the last few seasons so what do you think is the reason for doing so well this one? Shrewd signings? good youngsters coming through? good manager? Or has the fact the division seems wide open this season helped?

Think we had a fantastic 12months Bob but unfortunately for us it happened over two separate seasons jan 2021 to Feb 2022. Had we had that period of form in one season we would have probably gone up. Eustace was a big part of that and the change In attitude on the pitch.
I’m a big fan of Eustace.
Question you say your kind of demise started after that league cup win. Would you swap it in hindsight for better fortunes since?

Or has the fact the division seems wide open this season helped? its good to see eustace do well, he gave us a lot of loyalty last year when he turned down the swansea job to stay here as our assistant. my guess is he was 'promised' the managers job here after warburton but we obviously went in a different direction. i always thought he had something good about him as a manager though and that he'd be a very good manager one day. i still think birmingham have a good squad on paper but that you have a lot of has beens and bad eggs in the team. you were signing everyone up a few years back and its pretty difficult to think of many who actually worked out. i think you'll be a very good side in a few years once you get rid of the mercenaries and bring in some players who want to be there. as for jude, i remember him playing against us at loftus road a few years ago. think he was only 4 at the time or something lol but what a player. the ONLY thing he lacked at 16 years old was his physique as i remember us muscling him off the ball - but that was only when we actually managed to get near him as he had such great vision and awareness that he rarely put himself in that prediciment. as for why we're doing well. we've been building a side for a few years, mainly from free transfers but also picking up diamonds in the rough from random places. we've had a clear playstyle in mind since warburton so we've signed players to suit that. plus we have chair and willock who're arguebly among the top 5 best players in the league. we've been lucky to hold onto the core of our team too but our manager has completely taken us to the next level. lots of people referred to him as the brains behind gerrard and its easy to see why, he looks so tactically sound and our players are played to their strengths all of the time. we play a lot like rangers when they won the league tbh. i don't doubt for a second that beale will go onto much bigger and better things one day, he's far far too good for us and this league.

Eustace was a big part of that and the change In attitude on the pitch. I’m a big fan of Eustace. Question you say your kind of demise started after that league cup win. Would you swap it in hindsight for better fortunes since? That's the frustration isn't it. Sometimes the margins between success and failure are so slight. You can be having a great season then a few injuries or key players losing form and the season goes t*ts up. Regarding your question about our League Cup win. We'd never won a major trophy up till then. We'd won it in the early 60's (before my time) but at the time a lot of clubs didn't bother entering the competition so I don't count that one. I think when you won it a few years later was the first year it became a proper competition. I never thought I'd see us win a major trophy in my lifetime so before the final I and a lot of fans said we'd gladly swap it for relegation because we could always come back up to the Prem but doubted we'd ever get to another cup final. Like QPR, our history is mainly bouncing between the top 2 divisions so we were confident we'd go back up. If we'd have known how downhill things would go following the cup win perhaps we'd have thought differently. Winning that cup (deservedly even though a lucky goal won it) was an amazing day and yes even with hindsight I'd still swap it.
