Like Brentford they’ve made serious money from transfers which balances the books. The only player we’ve sold for any profit in the recent past is Eze as far as I can remember. So maybe there is an argument for our recruitment being shite. It depends on what other clubs we’re comparing ourselves to. For every Bournemouth there is an Ipswich, Derby, Portsmouth or Sheffield Wednesday.

"Investing the £1.5m"? That's about what we lose a month so not sure there is anything to re-invest.
Re not selling players like the OP is demanding, that sounds lovely but then as Rabbit points out, look how much money Bournemouth made selling their players. Same with Brentford. That's how they managed to go up. Selling and re-investing multiple times. You sell Willock and you bring in and develop a good winger/ number 10 from Blackpool or Wycombe.
General: I love your passion for getting back to the Prem and I was around in those days too so get your frustration about being overtaken by "lesser" clubs.
But realistically we are still years off doing a Bournemouth or Brentford. They sold over half a dozen players (probably a lot more than that) for serious wedge. We have just sold Eze, no one else of any serious value.
Its not looking great on that front either:
Willock - most obvious player asset but clearly got injury issues so will a prem club want him? He is also running down his contract so as things stand we could end him walking away for free. Personally would rather sell him to avoid that as we can't afford another Bright situation. And those fans demanding we go for the promotion - the shit or bust option - I assume they won't then complain if he does walk for free?
Chair - I'm a fan but he is very small and a lot of Prem Clubs might say he lacks the physicality. There is no market for big transfers anymore in the Championship
Deing - How much is a Prem Club going to pay for a fairly inexperienced Championship goalkeeper?
Dickie - not even first choice now so can't see Prem interest
Dunne - love the bloke but even on Sat he made (as usual) one error so major it could have been catastrophic
Field - nice player but not sure he is Prem class yet
JSC - definite potential but only had half a season in the Champ with us and in and out with injuries
Paal - definite potential but probably a year off

No easy task, I`m afraid, but with steady improvement on and off the pitch, I can see us getting promoted within 2 to 4 years. Ingredients: our current gaffer, improved facilities, and a mix of homegrown and shrewd signings/loans = Job done.

I was under the impression that’s there’s close to £2m in the kitty, I will be bitterly disappointed and angry if that windfall isn’t used to purchase or loan a striker in January.

To answer the OP
First and foremost we need a new board.
Won't get there again with the present incumbents.

Putters, as I call it. Love the stretch along the river and the common. Have a soft spot for the Lower Richmond Road from childhood and adolescence - got my first racing bike from Holdsworths, I think my dad got a discount as he was well known in the cycle racing community, is it still there? Used to go to the Brick to score as a yoof. Can't stand the high street though, never ever driven through there when it wasn't one long traffic jam.
Anyway, what was this thread about?
I'm on the lower love it , bike shop still there. As u said PHS is dead , all coffee shops and fast food joints .

"Investing the £1.5m"? That's about what we lose a month so not sure there is anything to re-invest. which is exactly why sane people think the board's model is ultimately non sustainable. It's an illusion. On the other hand, doing nothing suggests that they can afford to keep running at a loss, since they seem unwilling to try the alternative. There have been countless posts on here demonstrating that you can pick a useful addition without breaking the bank. If they really cant afford 1.5m loss per month and we're there or thereabouts in a couple of weeks, they cant afford to fuck it up again like last Jan. The problem remains the oceanic gulf in rights money ie prem vs efl. We need some of that, it really doesn't matter if we go up and get relegated again. The parachute model is massively more lucrative than the board's idea of sustainability.
Happy Christmas.
