Leave the recruitment to Ainsworth and we will have a hard working honest team with a couple of unearthed gems. Would keep Martin as clearly a good senior pro who could really help Sinclair's development. Want no nore bottle job show ponies in the team just good honest lads willing to give it a right go every game they play. If the aim is now to simply survive in the league for the next couple of years - a reasonable assumption given the accounts - I make you right. To get out of this division I think you do need some flair but to survive grit, fight and hard work go a long way in this division. That said we are likely saved this season by our form before Christmas. If we start off next season like we have played through 2023 we will go down. Am hopping Ainsworth can get enough of a tune out of them to avoid that. As others have said, its a bit of a return to the Holloway era. Not how I would like to have gone, but I guess needs must. Depends WHICH Olly era. Mark 1 would suit me fine! (Which GA was a major part of, of course)

I think he was poor. His only contribution was causing confusion after the whistles.

I think he was poor. His only contribution was causing confusion after the whistles. So often I can’t make my mind up if you’re serious or on a wind up. Martin stood his ground every time the ball was played up to him - he pissed the CBs off so much with his niggling that their game went to pieces and they eventually lost it completely. We won the game by frustrating theirs and he did that from the front. We were never going to win the game by trying to play football. We’ve now got a win, some confidence and some time for Ainsworth to work with.

Love him already.
He's a battered old, weary long in the tooth striker but fuck me he's a shit house for opposition players.
The amount of times I watch him pulling shirts, barging people in the back and generally pissing off opposition players he's exactly what we need.
He was out on his feet towards the end yesterday fitness wise yet still kept putting it in.
Give him another year!

If Dykes can attract a bid from poxy Millwall then anything is possible next season.Appreciate it’s all about opinions but IIRC you said no striker would come in during the winter transfer window and Lowe arrived. Who can possibly predict radical changes being made to both FFP and extra income being funnelled down from Premiership money. Fair enough. Don't know if you have read an analysis by Simon someone or other - quite a senior accountant and Rs fan - who has broken down the accounts really well on LFW. You could be right that so many clubs fall foul of FFP that they have to modify it somehow but that would requite common sense from the EFL and that's not something I would want to count on. I don't want to quote the numbers now as I would prob get it wrong but the projected shortfall was truly hair raising, not so much for next season but the one after - will take a lot more than a couple of million for Dykes to plug it. We basically need another Eze like sale. Simon Dorset who is not actually an Accountant but understands FFP very well. His piece for LFW is on the finances thread from the other day.

i wasn't the most excited person when we signed martin but credit where its due, he was excellent against watford. it wasn't just his best game for us from a footballing point of view but as others have already said, his shithousery was topnotch.
the watford defenders were absolutely livid with his dirty tactics lol. everytime the refs back was turned martin would do or say something to one of the defenders, they just couldn't focus.

He’s the type of CF the CB in the build up in week is not looking forward to facing. He’s doing everything we have been screaming out for Dykes to do which is even if you’re not amongst the goals make sure the CB are kept active. We need be looking now for the younger version of him.

Didn't know you all rate shithousering that highly 😅 That might have been important part of our win last Saturday but doubt it alone will win us many points.

Didn't know you all rate shithousering that highly 😅 That might have been important part of our win last Saturday but doubt it alone will win us many points. its great when your team is doing it, fun when you're a neutral but absolutely sucks when its done against you like preston did for years. disagree that it won't win points though as its an effective tool to throw players off their game. watfords defenders were irrate at martin and couldn't get into the groove or focus. aside from that though look at how consistent burnley were under dyche in the prem.

Timmy, of course it's not everything granted. But the efficacy of 'the dark arts' in the game is certainly a proven one.
You'd better get used to it under Ainsworth too because you can be sure he'll be using it! It's not his entire game of course but it is an aspect of it.

We should have bought Chris Martin years ago when he was at his best. He is the ultimate plan B player imo. I love him...

You can trust and rely on Martin to turn up and have a go which for a team in our position is invaluable. Unlike 4 or 5 of our squad Martin has a bit of pride and bollocks about him.

Took his goal well I thought. You make your own luck. Good pressure on their keeper and it actually came off Martin's boot.

His goal Monday was the sort of thing that never happens for Rangers. I think the last time was’82 Cup semi at Highbury when Clive Allen shinned it. WBA again😁

From memory the semi, the final and the replay were all pretty tight and not of the erm highest quality. Wouldn't have remembered anything at all if we'd got over the line....
