36 year old keeper Begovic still 100% capable of doing his job at a good level, for a whole season. 34 year old striker Martin is someone you'd wheel out now and again. It's a no from me.

He as mobile as a static caravan. And yet his scoring stats still bettered Dykes.

Vital goal at Burnley. Need someone who can come on and do that.

I'd have Martin as backup / impact sub if his salary demands were reasonable and he was happy with 1 year. Decent character to have around the place too.
Perhaps he wants more though, maybe he's angling for a longer deal. I wouldn't blame him either. Probably the last genuine professional contract he will get.

If Britt Assombalonga is the alternative then I would go for Chris Martin I think.

He as mobile as a static caravan. A familiar analogy from a prominent member of the Essex traveller community, but you do have a point

Fair for him to try to negotiate two years but if he insists, say goodbye. We got suckered into that with Adomah. Then the same fans who will complain if he goes elsewhere will be the same ones moaning that we have a pensioner on the pay roll next season hindering our attempts to buy a younger striker. Seeing as we are apparently trying to re-create the Holloway era (god help us) he could do a job for a year as a kind of Matt Smith impact sub and occasional starter but no more.

He seems to be the right guy for such a job. A bit raw, but he`s definetly got something about him character wise IMO.

Chris Martin. Not ideal but - surely cheap if no one has taken him, experience for the young players to bounce off, will likely get you a goal (like at Burnley) when you are throwing kitchen sink, knows the game so will be a bit of a leader on the pitch. Worth a year.

No way as next season we still wouldn't have another striker. Buys them another year to find one. We shouldn’t be, but we are desperate. I wonder if Ainsworth and/or the board think we are desperate? They put a lot of faith in Dykes and maybe they feel Armstrong has come on quicker than expected and can be given regular starts. We have some strong attacking midfielders (if they can stay fit and if they can be relied on to put in a shift), so potentially quite few goals to come there. And it seems we have some exciting youngsters on the verge of breaking into the side. Maybe the idea is to keep the youngsters 'hungry' and give them the hope of a first team outing, rather than block that place with an 'oldie' like Martin - whose wages are, after all, going to be fairly expensive compared to the youngsters. Bringing young players on is going to be the QPR way - giving them the chance to play will bring them on more quickly, and give them exposure to other teams' scouts. So, wouldn't be at all surprised if we don't sign anyone else this window.

So perhaps a specialist coach who can work exclusively with the strikers at the club could be an option? Personally I can't name one, but Gallen, with or without badges , has been mentioned.
