The fighting at the 82 Cup Final was mental
I went for a beer at half time and there
Was running battles in the concourse
Spurs were there in force that night

If back in the day rangers had put aside the postcode infighting bollox, we would of had a very tidy tight mob. Would of been very good at home and decent at a lot away. Always too bitty, too many doing their own thing. When we did all click it bloody clicked. But I’m old and can’t be arsed now, leave it to the youth. Do find it sad when blokes my age and older still give it large. There should be a age limit😀

A funny hooligan story? How can I hurt people just enough to not get done for murder? You fucking scum of the earth. Bullys, inadequates, psychopaths, everything that is wrong with humanity. I spit on you and all yours. Cunts. I would agree that deliberately getting involved in physical altercations is a really dumb move, especially if you're not trained in some form of martial art e.g. Brazilian jiu jitsu. Otherwise you're liable to get yourself seriously hurt or possibly even killed. If you do find yourself unwittingly involved, the far more intelligent thing to do in the first instance is to attempt to diffuse the situation and talk your way out (always keeping as much distance as possible between you and them whilst doing so), or if that's not possible, run. Fighting would always be a final resort. And no, that is not cowardly - on the contrary, it's being smart. Speak with any black belt martial artist and they'll always tell you this. Plenty have done it, from all social backgrounds and unless u have partaken in said activity u don’t really understand it. Is it wrong yes, but so much in life is. Oh I understand it all right. I've been involved in plenty of violence up close and personal to know that. Don't misunderstand my post either - I'm not making a moral judgement.

The way I can describe it personally for me, it wasn’t about the violence, that of course came into it, it was the rush b4 not knowing what or if anything would happen. Then if did adrenaline’s pumping, and after u think fucking hell. I’ve always sought a rush. Bungee, heights, tried drugs , but never as big a rush. Even 3 in a bed wasn’t anything compared.

For loads of us it was never who could have a straightner ,or even who could have a row at all . It was the culture that went with it , the fear ,the buzz ,mates etc

Reckon anyone with a pulse who attended certain fixtures in the 70s / 80s felt the old adrenalin kick in from time. Minimally related to what was happening on the park.
A lot of people who weren't involved don't really get that culture. I was only on the periphery a few times (inc. that replay) but I understood why people got involved, even if I was about as threatening as a cheese roll.

Straighteners aren't really a resolution, are they? It's never ending as there will always be tit-for-tat, someone feeling hard done by and wanting to exact revenge?
As Martin Luther King said: "Violence begets violence; hate begets hate; and toughness begets a greater toughness"

People were barbaric in our past. We not long in terms of things evolved to far from apes. You only have to look at wars and the things people do to each other to see what is in us all. Plenty control themselves but if they was in another situation would they change. Humans kill for killing sake, and are violent. Most animals kill out of a need or defence.

Yes, I get all that. And I get that it's a buzz, adrenaline rush, youthful testosterone-fuelled activity etc etc..
But at the end of the day it's still a pretty dumb-ass move to get involved with it.

Are you saying most people who smoke, drink and do drugs are aware it's stupid but do it to feed their addictions, in full knowledge that it's irrational? If so, I don't think that analogy with football hooliganism stacks up, because in the latter case it seems they do not perceive the behaviour as irrational whatsoever.

one thing i NEVER understood about hooliganism is the whole casuals side of it. seriously, fighting over football is silly enough but why spend a weeks wages on stylish clothes just to ruin them in a fight? it never made sense to me lol.

Too strong a self-preservation in me to want to be a part in all of this. I did get an insight into it a few years back when a workmate explained his reasons for his involvement. He enjoyed it, pure and simple. He was built like a brick shit house, arms as thick as my thighs, fists the size of ham joints, no neck - I'm sure Lord of the Rings based their lead Orc on him... He and his mates would go out on a Friday night as a warm-up to a game on Saturday. They'd go to their locals and basically pick fights with any strangers in 'their' pub they didn't like the look of. Cricket and baseball bats were involved. But, lovely, caring lad that he was, he drew the line at knives. Complete and utter violent fuckwit - but I couldn't help quite liking him... ![](https://i.imgur.com/v4thiGN.gif) ![](https://i.imgur.com/jJQI9HI.gif)

A lot of men are fearless and care free and violent as youngsters, I was fairly game when a yoot and football was a outlet. But I’d have a row anytime place when a youngster. Most go out of faze some don’t

When my Dad started taking me and my brother to LR back in 75/76 we would park up SAR in White City Stadium car park for 30p. They had an actual human being too as the attendant who carried a brown leather shoulder satchel for coins and change, similar to the old bus conductors.
