They should have come down a lot harder on him.
There are many things wrong with the modern game including the way players go down too easily to win a penalty but what he did was downright embarrassing. Blatant cheating of the highest order and a chance missed by the authorities to send out a warning to other professionals ( I use that word lightly) of a similar ilk.
