Does it bother you that it bothers him?
It's just a bit of a strange observation in this day and age. I've met successful industry leaders that are scruffy as hell. Why would a football club's Manager need to adhere to any particular dress code?

Either you think it matters, or you don't. If you think it matters, it's not a strange a observation, it's pertinent. If you don't think it matters, then why care about what someone else thinks? Unless.... it matters to you that your opinion is right. Just sayin...

Not sure what your point is Hubs. My point was, is the Managers appearance really something we should be complaining about?
I've largely bit my tongue while people have been quite publicly slating Ainsworth. Some of my mates were fully writing us off as relegated 3 or 4 games into his tenure, as we're many on here. Then he keeps us up (a supposed impossible task) and people start complaining about the style of play or lack of possession etc. Now we are complaining about his transfer dealings.
Just give the bloke a chance for God's sake. Give him at least half a season with his own players before we decide he's shit. And if he wants to grow some stubble, who really gives a fuck.
Rant over!

Okay, Tarbs, this is my point: I see that you take umbrage at apparent slights on Ainsworth's character, that is the issue here, for you. But as it happens I agree with Sparks, I think he looks a mess. And whether you like it or not, people - possibly the majority - will see that as reflecting badly on him and the club. Of course you can take the moral high-ground and say that people shouldn't judge people on the way they look - but come on, this is a society that is all about image. The image is regarded as a reflection of character. And Ainsworth's image gives the impression of sloppiness. It's not a great look!
You've also segued into the wider story about last season and say he did a good job 'saving' us from relegation. But you could equally argue that he led us to that precarious position in the first place (or at least contributed to it) and that our survival was as much a matter of luck as anything GA did, specifically. The wider issue in all this is that if we invest our emotions in something that is beyond our control - like a football team - it's always going to be a rocky road. Such is the life of a football fan!

Totally disagree with basically all of that Hubs.
Guess we should agree to disagree! 🤣

I get more annoyed when I see coaches etc who are totally out of shape and condition who are responsible for what should be highly trained players. Steve Bruce is an example.
On actual appearance Pepe sometimes looks like he’s walked out the pub but suppose his CV allows that. Lampard tried similar look and was a car crash.

It's just such a non-issue for me these days Westy. I haven't put on a suit to go to work in years. I have a beard and some days (like Ainsworth) I go into the office wearing a leather jacket and cowboy boots. And I'm not joking.
I work with some seriously talented software professionals. Some of them with PhD's. A lot of those guys turn up to the office looking like they are checking into rehab. 🤣
For me, the whole idea of looking super presentable to do your day job is so out of date. It harps back to the days where people had the mindset of being lucky to have a job and put up with all sorts of control tactics, that quite rightly have been left in the rear view mirror by most workplaces.
It's also actually proven that environments that promote individuality and strive for a bit of diversity in the personalities that they hire are typically more successful.

Personally think the way the guy looks is a complete non-issue. If we went on a winning run in the league not one person would be complaining about it or even mentioning it. Cheap way to dig him out imo.

Yes, he looks like he’s been in the pub with his mates but he’s also one of the few who looks like he could still put his boots on and show you how it’s done. Like you, I can’t believe the state of some ex- players and how quickly they get like it.

i genuinely think we'll be fine next season. i've said since the start that we'll either have an awful season or a great one and i'm leaning towards the latter tbh.
this is the environment gaz absolutely thrives in. that whole being underestimated backs against the wall kind of deal. he did it for years at wycombe and however you judge his antics and methods he still massively overachieved there and if the players buy into him and are willing to fight then he'll overachieve here.
we know we need players, gaz and the board know that too. they're not total idiots and are working on bringing the right players in. i know we'll end up spending some money on a few of them too and a few of our players will step it up as well.
take the game yesterday for example, we're certainly a lot more direct but thats the sort of thing dykes and armstrong will thrive on.

Most people are not being perceived by their dress code or persona because they are not on tv or YouTube being scrutinised by thousands of people, but Ainsworth is, and I still say he’s a scruffy looking individual when comparing him to every other manager in football.

"Scruffy" is such a subjective term though, isn't it?
He's passionate about loud rock and roll music, even to the extent he fronts a band doing it. Most people into that kind of genre like having long hair, stubble, cowboy boots, jeans, leather jackets etc. And plenty of people of his age too, before anyone brings that into it. He also happened to be a decent footballer who went into coaching when his playing days were over. And?...Nothing very unusual about that either, as plenty are into both.

The word scruffy in the dictionary is described as
1 shabby and untidy or dirty. 2 (of a man’s face) having short bristly hairs as a result of not being shaved for a while.

But I’m not sure why it really matters as football manager of qpr. It’s just his style. Who cares as long as he does a good job. And I’m someone who thinks he’s going to be an absolute disaster!

That's the dictionary definition. That still doesn't prevent it from being a highly subjective term. One man's 'scruffy' is another man's 'cool'.
