Everyone doing it, probably buying own ones back!😀 Off the point but son of an old boss was at university back in the day. Every so often he used to nick two fridges from rooms and sell each one to the other. Several times before he got rumbled. I bet he got well and truly frozen out when he finally got caught.

But the Premier League has monetised a game born in the UK, which has a long and rich history and heritage, of developing home-grown players. It was a working class game (the nobs had cricket and rugby), the 'people's game'. To my mind it's all got out of hand to the point where the money involved is frankly obscene. But for the Saudis to come in and hoover up top players, usually ageing, is infinitely worse. No FFP for them - I mean, is offering the Fulham manager a two-year £40m contract financially viable? Of course not. Saudi football is a billionaires' plaything. Worse, it is sportswashing at its most cynical. I fucking hate it, and everything about it.

There’s a lot wrong with the Prem ( and Sky) but at least we got modernised and new stadia out of it, plus better football in the traditional home of the game. The Saudis are just sportwashing their evil regime. Apart from players getting rich in the short term there is no comparison.

It’s all buying power, up till now pretty much prem and English clubs could buy who they wanted as got the most money. Now a new boy on the block who can buy everybody they getting pissy. Politics should not come into this. On a pure sport basis it’s exactly want prem done forever. Saudi chucking better wages and a fee at joe bloggs is no different to what say a top 6 prem club do to lesser side’s. They just worried their cash cow set up is not the be and end all

Saudi chucking better wages and a fee at joe bloggs is no different to what say a top 6 prem club do to lesser side’s. They just worried their cash cow set up is not the be and end all In an ideal world, perhaps. But this is far from an ideal world. And the Saudi interest in sport generally, and football in particular, is all about sportswashing their international reputation - and it's something for the bored 15,000 members of the Saudi royal family to play with. Their family wealth alone runs into TRILLIONS. So spending a few million here and there on ageing footballers is like spending cash found down the back of the sofa. Meanwhile, 'ethical' players like Jordan Henderson, who openly criticised the Qataris before the World Cup, have been lured by the blood money of the arguably far more oppressive, brutal and murderous Saudi regime. Or make up spurious excuses to justify their going - like Gerrard claiming he's going for 'footballing reasons'. Fucking laughable. As Groucho Marx said, "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others." Thing is, what really drives football is the fans. Take them away and the game is little more than a kick around in the park.

But go play for Brentford, Spuds or Arsenal on £100-200k a week, you're not endorsing a despotic, murderous, misogynistic and homophobic regime which butchers journalists for writing articles they don't like. It is VERY different.

Think we’re in danger of saying everything Saudi is bad or everyone has the same views as the regime.
There is good snd bad everywhere.
If a Saudi came into buy us I’m pretty sure majority of fans would be doing back flips and quickly forget the moral arguments.

Not that new owners would be able or allowed to spend anything.

The supposed offer in for Mbappe today (from Al Hilal) is fcuking eyewatering.....
€300m transfer fee to PSG (noting he would be leaving for free next summer) €700m salary for his 1 year there (€13.4m a week) Next summer he would get his move to Madrid

Rumour is Mbappe's sexuality maybe a factor in why he's gonna knock back all that money to go to Saudi.
Only found out today that he was dating a transexual. Did anyone else on here know that?

I think it's more a matter of principles. If he feels connected to the LGBTQ+ community (or whatever they call it these days), he probably has a few qualms at moving somewhere where they lynch people for being exactly that.
