Really need Varane to start getting up to speed as our central midfield options are dire.
Colback should have been released IMO. Always suspended, slow and 1 good game in 5
EDB - Don't see anything in him that makes me think he'll prosper at this level. Another one I think we should have moved on if we could.
Field - Hasn't started the season well as yet, but no doubt will come good. He has consistency.
Varane - I know absolutely nothing about him and didn't see the game Saturday although it sounded like he was poor.
Anderson - Flatters to deceive.
Things will be better when Chair returns as he will slot in, but as far as the other lot goes. Worrying.

Any underperformance in the middle two, given our set up, and we’re in trouble. |

Chair and Willock did never pass to him. |

In reality "released" would mean buying up his entire contract. Ironically we are in the same position with Coleback as Newcastle are with Hayden. Both know their next gig is going to be for way less money so unless they are bought out of their contracts or someone agrees to pay a decent slice of their wages in a loan deal, neither will move. Re Varane - in fairness he was up against two very good Championship players on Saturday but his performance underlines that the Championship is a step up from the Spanish second tier, where he wasn't even a starter. I'm arguing against myself a bit as for years I've been banging on about how we need to use more data in recruitment, but this close season we have gone from the total extreme of Ainsworth type signings (ageing honest pros like Bergovic, Coleback) and gone for youngsters due to their good analytics. Be very interesting to see if the likes of Varane and even more so in the case of Santos can adjust to the physicality of our league. As Brian Clough famously said, the game is played on grass and not paper. |

My issue with him is he doesn't regulate his behaviour at all when he's on a yellow. It's just stupid, if you're booked you don't go all in on a 50/50 and you keep your mouth shut. An experienced player like Colback shouldn't need telling that.
