The reality is (especially during the closed season when approaches are allowed) that the only one who can close this down is Marti himself, and he is clearly not prepared to do so. He has been silent throughout. But the way these things happen, is that there is an initial tapping up, and if encouraged, then it grows until closed or someone else is appointed. It is very much in Marti's interest to keep his name out there and connected with every decent vacancy. It reminds the industry how well he did, and how good he is. Even if he does not want to leave the leafy suburbs of London for the North East, he may want the next one e.g Southampton when Martin gets the hoof, or somewhere drivable leaving his family settled in their current abode. As for the club, they have nothing to say apart from letting it be known that any release will not be cheap. They will be aware that Marti is currently in demand and that he is ambitious. They cannot speak for him, and if he decides that he wants to jump elsewhere, the club will be powerless, because today, players and managers who want out, get out. If they come out and say that he is staying, and then he says he is leaving, they look foolish.

Why should the club say anything, Bill? He’s under contract at Rangers. Not really anything to be said unless he has asked to go, which I very much doubt would be the case. Could kill his managerial career in England stone dead if he walked away and failed. Why to clarify the clubs position and if it means nothing like another poster stated, what is the problem. Good comms and emphasisies the clubs position. Say nothing and the media will push and push. Also in the build up to a new season where i was hoping for a more professional approach it would seem obvious to steady the ship for all concerned, board, players, staff and last but not least the paying public. they don't really need to say anything though tbh as it's only really surging betting odds as a result of alan nixon's tweet that have placed marti in the frame. if we all put bets on idk, tony adams to be the next sunderland boss then he would also rocket up the odds such is the algorithm for that kind of thing. it doesn't mean there's any truth in the matter and i doubt adams would come out distancing himself from the job if that happened. from marti's perspective sunderland wouldn't be a great career move at this point tbh. yes they're a much bigger club but they have a bit of a toxic fanbase, aren't exactly blessed with loads of money to throw around, a bad owner and a squad that on paper isn't any better than ours and worse in some regards. QPR on the other hand have a decent spine and only need a few additions to push up the table, we will have a bit of money to chuck about should eze be sold and a great vibe around the club with a shrewd CEO at the helm. afaik marti is currently in barcelona scouting players. if it were a prem team or a team like burnley showing interest in marti then i'd be concerned but there's not really anything to the sunderland rumours imo.

absolutely this I dont think the club have to say anything why should they if there is nothing in it. If he was 20/1 does statement have to come out? If not what odds trigger a statement. If he’s linked with another job next week do we need release another statement where does it end? The need and hunger from fans to demand information on everything club related is reaching new levels. Statement even if released means nothing as Beale proved. Relax guys Ok just let it fester and get messy. Yes thats the way to go. Simple statement MC is here next season as far as we are concerned.Good healthy comms is ultra important in any orgaisation. If it means nothing what is the problem? You have proved exactly why we shouldn't say anything. 'as far as we are concerned' means nothing. It's a nothing statement. It's obvious that he is here, as far as they are concerned. But if a bigger team (not the Sunderland job, as they appear in freefall again) then he will have his head turned and be off. Of a club offer the buy out of whatever it is. If a club actually approaches us, then there is an argument for an update. Other than that, you can't respond to rumours.

Whether he stays or goes, club should always be one step ahead, looking at potential replacements. Nourry probably knows that and has his radar out.

What are Marti's odds for the Burnley job? Scott Parker favourite, 5-6 on. Then Rosenior 4-1. Marti, shortest odds I've seen are 8-1 and 6th in the running order.

Marti aint going anywhere for a good while.
Sunderland would have problems on the compensation front and anyway they seem, inexplicably, to have a raging hard on for Fat Frank. I actually think he could do OK there but I never said that.
Compensation wise, yes, Burnley could. But I think they want someone with a little more experience, someone who could get them back up and keep them there. I don't think that's Scot Parker, but I do look forward to seeing him modelling a new selection of cardigans.
I dont think MCif wants to do a Beale, there is none of the self aggrandising evident and I reckon he's happy building a reputation at a club which, until he arrived, everyone saw as an utter shambles.
He will go, but not yet.

I tell you what, it royally pisses me off that a wanky club like Sunderland think they can waltz in an just take our manager from us. They, Burnley and anyone else can fucking do one.

Think he would go to Burnley tbh if they offered him the job. Very likely to be a premier league manager 9 months later, salary probably a few multiples of whatever we are paying. Hopefully they will go for a "name" which seems their main criteria. Agree laughable about Brum and very unlikely about Sunderland as it looks a poisoned chalice. That said press reports describe our release clause as "six figures". That could be 100k, absolute peanuts in footballing terms. Hopefully its a lot higher!

Marti going to Sunderland would be like finding your mrs in bed with Ian Dowie. Both would leave you scratching your head thinking why the fuck. But ultimately, after having time to process it, you’d think, good riddance if you’re willing to stoop that low.

Thought that would have been perfect opportunity for lampard try get back in and build a reputation. Prob thinks he’s prem standard 🙄
Something not quite right at Sunderland can’t be in good shape off pitch. Sacked Beale in Feb so four months left of season and approaching 6months and still no one in post. Think they will struggle next season outsider to drop.

Come on, did anyone seriously think Marti was going anywhere, especially to basket case Sunderland? Come on! Anyway, just in case anyone was still suffering from anxiety:
I told you, the chorizo stays in the fridge. Although it doesn't need to go in the fridge of course, it's perfectly fine hanging around in the air.
