Huge fan of Marti he’s a proper manager. I do think we need to urge caution as his arrival and upturn has raised expectation where as if we’re honest there was none last season we expected a hard season and plenty thought we would go down so staying up was like a bonus. Because of his start, style and results fans will go into this season expecting something so defeats and dropped points will no doubt be overly analysed because of the hope there now is. The ‘where will we finish thread’ will be an indicator of new expectation levels. Pity he didnt make this statement earlier or the club. But hey what do i know ? 😄 Tbh not quite sure why they should have done, as Awin said. Are they supposed to come out with a statement every time he's listed in the betting for a vacancy? As I said earlier in the thread he aint going anywhere. I think he has an excellent relationship with the CEO and is very much part of the building process, I don't think thats happened at LR for a very long time. If he moved to a bigger club, the expectations and pressure would be higher and there's no way he'd have the same input as he enjoys here. At some point he'll look for a new challenge, but that point is not now.

We (and Beale ) went public and said he was loyal and had turned down Wolves then whoosh he was off like a shot. Personally I like the new approach, cut out the leaks and only go public when something is definite. Maybe frustrating when we do not hear what is going on but that leads to plenty of debate and speculation as well.

Yes when there is major speculation to a major factor regarding the future of the club. "He was always staying you knew that for a fact did you ?

Birmingham City had been a ‘well established’ Championship-level club - in fact last season they had been the club with the longest continuous participation in the Championship. Ten managers in the last four years probably says it all really. So it was working!

Nah, I just don't buy this 'established championship club' notion. It's a misnomer for the simple reason that e.g. all Cifuentues needs to do is leave for a better offer somewhere else and we are literally back to square one i.e. no longer 'established' due to the huge disruption that would cause. No club is truly established in the championship because it's all very short-termism these days; unless you're in the Prem when the money that brings allows you to consolidate that position. In the championship, as I say, it all comes down to correct running and recruitment. Get that right/wrong and you're very easily either promoted or relegated - which is why at least the intention should be in getting promoted That's why I said to be established we would put down some foundations - eg develop a load of players, sell on several players for big profits, so there is a structure there, the value of our squad (currently very low by Championship standards) would be more like the higher end. I conceded that it only takes one really bad managerial appointment for it to all go tits up but if we followed the path I outlined above, even if Marti did leave after a year or two and we got in a half way competent manager - so not a Marti marvel but not an Ainsworth - we should still be fairly comfortable in the Championship. Obviously I would love to get promoted too, but one step at a time, we were staring down the barrel of league one a few months ago. On current budgets it would require something really exceptional to get promoted, if we build the foundations it wouldn't look so amazing.

As for no one putting out a statement, the club can hardly come out and say "Marti is going nowhere" because then we could look like complete chums again so soon after the Beale debacle. Things change very quickly in football and just because he doesn't go to one club it doesn't mean another isn't going to be along in a minute, again as we learned with Beale.
And Marti (or any other manager) is not going to put out an "I'm staying whatever" message when he is being linked with another job. His agent will be delighted as its getting his client in the spotlight and probably helping his negotiation to secure a better deal in his existing club. Plus lets be honest he might have half thought about it, we don't know.
I'm not saying its wonderful or maybe how we all behave in our working lives but I don't think anyone who has followed modern football should be all that surprised sadly.

On current budgets it would require something really exceptional to get promoted Again, I am skeptical of this notion you necessarily need a big budget to get promoted. What was Ipswich's last season, and Luton's before that, and Brentford's before that - all promoted. Were their budgets that different to ours? (I'm sure there's further examples too.) I remain to be convinced of your arguments Stains. Again, the significant difference between those clubs and us was their running and recruitment, I would contend

You don’t leave Queens Park Rangers for the likes of Burnley or Sunderland!

Luton pretty close to it. Never said it’s impossible but the exception proves the rule. Brentford had been selling players for very sizeable fees prior to promotion and on the back of that could spend eg 5m on Toney - chicken feed of course compared to his later value but 5m we certainly couldn’t go out and spend.

I dunno Stains. I cited three clubs in consecutive seasons, so I'm not sure it's really THAT exceptional. The bottom line is they were/are just very well run and recruited wisely. Going back further in time, the likes of Brighton, Palace, Leicester, Norwich, Burnley and Saints did similar, all on similarly modest budgets when in the Championship, prior to them yoyoing and benefiting from parachute payments.

All these rumours and it looks like he didn’t even have an interview. Quite the opposite if Beale who met at least 3 clubs

A lovely read - he sounds very happy, settled and loved here. It will hopefully dispel some of the rumours over his immediate future. Sure sure. But Beale also seemed settled a happy here, even went so far as to commit to QPR before fucking off weeks later. Still skeptical. Yeah but Beale is a fucking cunt. I know we’ve been bitten but Marti has something about him that the eel never had

I don't think we are disagreeing that much Stan. Agree its possible. But as you say they were all well-run clubs. Happy to be corrected but don't think a single one of them suddenly became brilliant overnight. It took a few years in most cases of laying down foundations - certainly with Brentford and Brighton. Ipswich might be an outlier there don't know enough about its recent history. If Marti sticks around and we build the foundations its possible but bar a big influx of money - such as through an Eze sale or two - I personally can't see it for a few years.

I`m perhaps naive, but It looks to me that Marti sees this as a shared project, not only as a -climb up the career ladder- gig.

"they weren't the best going forward at times, despite some of the creative talent in the QPR team"... Fucking hell, that's a reason to mark him down? Did they see our "strike force" last season?? Ludicrous that they only rate him 7th, but at the same time great, if it keeps his name under the radar a bit longer. Keep on underestimating him all you other clubs!

Silly Goth, though, not silly old Goth. It's even more derogatory.

let's be honest, we may well win this but we look very poor especially on the play outs. Panic never far away when they press. Also giving the ball away too often. Quite a lot of confusion down the LHS trying to move the ball from back to front. Random presing from us. I don't like what I'm seeing, not gonna lie. We have to improve. Don't think I've ever posted how poor we looked when we've just gone two up.... until last night. For me, the Marti honeymoon is over. We've been desperate up until this point, inc pre season. Competitors will be watching us play out and licking their lips. Every time we tried to play out down the left I couldn't watch, total abortion.
Let's be honest, almost anyone would have transformed QPR for the better post Gareth. A lot of the shit show I'm seeing is systemic, down to the manager. Tactically we look hopeless, one dimensional.Other sides know how Marti is going to set up and he needs to adapt to that immediately.
Post-match interview on 2m38s saying "I take total responsibility (for Cambridge's goal) because I ask the players to play that way, to assume that kind of risk because i think there is a reward when you do it well, and so it's a game we can learn a lot from the second half":

Mistakes are an inevitable consequence but they will become fewer as the team gels and finds its groove. Other teams obviously know what we’re about but that’s not necessarily an issue. The point of playing it out is to draw the oppo onto you leaving space behind them. And to take a bit out of their legs through having to press and chase. If it’s done properly then it can work a treat, but sometimes you just have to accept that the short option isn’t on and go a bit longer. We demolished Leeds last season partly due to our press so it just goes to show, the sort of calibre player Leeds have struggled to play the way Marti wants us to play. It won’t always work and he needs to be a bit more flexible. Can understand doing it last night though, no different to playing a weakened team really.
