Thought not got any threads on old fashioned Sunday league football and reckon few on here are still playing (Me) or have kids or grandchildren still going out in the cold Sunday mornings.
We might even have some walking footballers too 😋
Ran the line today for my sons team and the opposition had some of the gobbiest parents I’ve come across. Needless to say they never liked some of my calls so there was a few verbals exchanged 😁💪🏽
There are some proper talented kids each week wish the club would send scouts down to this level.

Some parents are a fucking nightmare in the kids Sunday leagues. Think their son will play professional…..no fucking chance. Giving the young lads who are reffing grief, and we wonder why we’re short of referees! What’s the age group?

James some of the parents are shocking.
I try and avoid running the line as whilst I keep my mouth shut and let the coach coach (there can be too many voices for the kids with parents keeping shouting instructions) but if I’m doing line and people are chirping up then I give it back (Alan will confirm I can be a gobby cunt when I choose 😂)
It’s very easy to get into a row hence why avoid the line but keep ending up with the flag 🙄😩. What’s an eye opener is just how done parents don’t know the rules either or what’s offside.
U14s this season

Last season, there was agro nearly every week! Lots of parents go missing when we need volunteers for linesman! I’d say Carshalton are normally the worst in leagues we play in. There’s a lot of cracking players that have got dropped out of some of the Cat A academies. Problem at U14 age group is that the size is a big advantage and they’re all growing at different speeds!

That’s why I try avoid the line as it’s conflict every week but there are so many parents just keep head down when they ask, then it’s like can you do. One parent said we all think you should do it as if it ends in a punch up you would do better then us 😂😂😂
Started when they were U8s so I’ve watched them grow and evolve.
When I watch some of the lower ages waiting for our games even players from 8years old have some unbelievable technical skills.
Your right about size as some of these 14year olds are the size of men up against kids half their size.

I used to play football three times a week into my 30s - Saturday SE Counties League, Sundays West Kent League and Wednesdays local Business Houses League (outdoor 6-a-side on Red-Gra (red clay and limestone gravel, brutal). Also helped run a learning disabled team for our local Gateway Club, sponsored by Crystal Palace.
Moved house, had kids and football took a back seat, until my son's U6s needed a coach. Stepped in and coached them until parent politics got too much hassle at U12s (there were fist-fights between parents on the touchlines, one boy was reduced to tears by his dad's shouting during a match... the list is endless) and I stepped down.
But not before a few of the other coaches and dads set up our own indoor 5-a-side group, which has now been running over 20 years, playing every Wednesday evening.
I also joined a Vets side a few years ago - though in my 50s when most of the players were mid-late 30s (Vets seems to be anyone 35 or over), so only did that for a couple of seasons.
A couple of years back I joined a walking football group and was surprised how much of a workout it is - definitely get a good sweat on. and still get that childish thrill when scoring a particularly good goal, sending a defender the wrong way with a step-over, or just threading an accurate pass through a crowded defence.
We recently got to the semi-finals of the Kent walking Football FA Cup, losing out on penalties. If anyone on here is thinking their playing days are over, definitely give walking football a go.
So, still playing twice a week and enjoying it as much as I ever did.

Good luck Westy. Sounds like the dark arts are alive and well!
I do miss my Southern Olympian League playing days. Have a little silverware but retired now as too many injuries caught up.
