Why are they not revered by the club. For example we have Stanley Bowles stand and thats it.
Poor imo

For me we should add Stock, Rodney and Gregory to the stand names and name suites for Sexton and Gerry Francis.

the upper loft was renamed to the legends stand or something like that. the wall along the rail there now has blowups of many of our famous players etc. nice touch.

Tbf we do quite a lot to ackowledge ex players, no? Forever R's club (some inductees being questionable aside)?
How many clubs have every stand named after a player - very very few, if any I would suspect.

It is but I can't help but think that some of the names on there aren't real legends and is testament to a club who seem obsessed with being nice.

I get that, honestly, and it does feel bad explaining to younger fans how much they missed out on but, for me, there's trying to cater for all ages and then there's trying to pretend that all 'legends' are equal. It is a tough call but it does cause some friction when you see Kevin Gallen on a 'Legends' wall - for example- and sharing a space with Rodney.

Get what you are saying oldr but guess that is the inevitable consequence of being a lot, lot less successful in the first quarter of the 21st century than we were in the last quarter or more of the 20th century. I really fell in love with the club watching Tony Currie. But I probably saw more of Akos Buzacky. Was he as good as TC? Probably not. But to the generation who grew up watching the Rs during the Akos period, he probably was a legend (overused as I do agree that word is). Personally wouldn't argue with Adel being a legend. He fitted the profile of the players who have given our club our DNA. Plus if you think I'm 55 (basically an old bastard) but even I was too young to see Rodney and only ever saw Stan once. I'm sure the likes of Ron Springett or whatever were brilliant players for us but sadly these kind of names don't mean anything much even to me, so they certainly aren't going to resonate with the like of Corbray, let alone kids.

Maybe the way forward is to jettison the 'whole' approach and separate into eras?

It keeps Andy Sinton off the street.
