I know I was in the minority but I always thought Mass was a decent midfielder. Not spectacular but contributed.
I’ve been a big fan of field last two seasons too and would have him down as one of our better performers.
Last few games Field has been struggling but I personally would class them as very similar players in ability and performance.
Think Mass has bit more to his game as he was bit busier getting about the pitch and could ping a pass so I’m edging towards him.

Field for me. Very poor season so far but last year he was consistently our most reliable performer in midfield and we’d have been lost without his last ditch defending many times.

Mass had the look of a decent player at times but always felt he struggled to impose himself on games. Field does a lot of shitty work that goes unappreciated by a lot of fans.

Tough one. Both definitely have strengths and weaknesses. Field has been out of form recently but - in general - has been more of a consistent performer than Mass was for us. I'd be interested to hear Nasser's take on it though

Tough as always an element of recency bias (Field out of form and Mass a key player for a flying Ipswich).
Like west I was always a fan of Mass (had many a debate on the old WATRB with people on him lol), but generally over the last 18 months or so would suggest Field edges it.
As we are sat here today though I’d swap them in a heartbeat lol

Mass by a mile. He could carry the ball, make a forward pass, and score the odd goal. Field can't do those necessary things.

Mass, just, but both have been massively overrated by a section of the fans.
Some suggesting that the former would move to a La Liga or Serie A giant in 2018 was honestly up there with the wildest things we've heard at QPR and they actually believed it.

Field is a walking yellow and has little impact. Mass contributes more than just a stopper.

Think in all honesty Field is the stronger player with the ability to cover more ground.
One of those players that always gives his all and yet when he goes missing people question where is he.
Luongo was good but given where we are currently think i would rather have Field in the trenches with me.

Even he acknowledged that it was a load of bollocks being on the list and his inclusion was used as a stick to beat the voting system with 🤣

Going to be in a minority but I never rated Luongo. I have at times liked Field but only when our game plan is to defend. I don’t understand how we can have a midfielder who is so uncomfortable on the ball and can’t shoot. So, I think I’ve argued myself into a Luongo vote!

In a game where most managers now seem to want players who can do more than one thing Field ticks the box. They hadn’t decided at WBA if he was going to be a CB or MF. When he’s dropped back for us he looks good. We’re only discussing him because his form has bombed. It will be like a new signing when it returns.

I think it’s more that, with current manager, passing and ball retention is key. I don’t think he’s ever been great at that side of the game. And I think you have to be in modern football as a central midfielder.

Could do a lot worse than play him as CB. Cook won’t last forever.

Could do a lot worse than play him as CB. Cook won’t last forever. he’s not CB imo ok as a stand in when short but not as a Full time roll, totally different ask. Plus his problem is distribution in the main and using the ball, defenders are now required/expected to do that as norm. Personally would rather see him getting caught in possession or giving ball away in middle of the park then edge of the box.

i like both. didn't feel like mass achieved what he could have with us until his final season but he was always decent.
if i had to choose though i'd choose field. been poor this season but has still done more for us than mass ever did. i feel like mass and field in a midfield together would be a very solid pairing though

Luongo’s lack of goals was a problem with him.

Different players.
Field is a holder and Mass was box to box.
Field doesn't pass forward enough and Mass wasn't ever fit enough. I think Mass had more ability but Field protects the back 4 better
