1) I would scrap the transfer windows altogether.
2) While we're at it I'd also scrap the embargo on signing foreign players.
3) Finally, I would also abolish all FFP / P&S rules.
On balance, the upsides of these restrictions are greatly outweighed by the downsides IMO.
Nice heavy discussion to carry us into 2024! π

Although it is years ago, Blackburn signing Duncan Shearer from Swindon to stop their promotion challenge in 92 is exactly why we have windows. 2) Agree to an extent but fearful of dodgy agents using this as a loophole. 3) Completely disagree, the rules need tweaked but exist for a good reason. Once the ESL starts they'll be more effective.

1) May keep us up this season as an example why to keep it 2) I would increase the embargo. The premier league could be staged anywhere in the world. Ridiculous that some weeks teams are fielded without a single British player. 3) Agree - As it stands no-one can compete with the elite teams any more.

1) May keep us up this season as an example why to keep it By the same token, it can also relegate a club if e.g. their best player is sniped in the 11th hour. 2) I would increase the embargo. The premier league could be staged anywhere in the world. Ridiculous that some weeks teams are fielded without a single British player.I don't have a big problem with that, personally. However that issue can be helped by addressing its root causes, not the symptoms.

I would allow only two foreign players to be fielded by a team each game.

keep transfer windows, it can easily be abused otherwise.
loosen the rules on signing foreign players. for example, players at idk, a romanian team that plays a few games in europe every year are easier to sign than someone playing in the 2nd tiers of spanish and german football despite those leagues being of a better standard. rather than there being only top flight consideration in play i feel like it should be a countries entire coeficent ranking taken into account. heck, its even easier to sign SK or japanese players than it is a european player from the second division.
what also concerns me about that is its of no concern to prem clubs who aren't signing 2nd division players anyway but it impacts championship clubs abilities to make signings. on the flip side though it forces championship clubs to develop british players, but that also has its own struggles as prem clubs will inevitably hoover up the likes of bowen and eze and thus maintain the status quo.
keep FFP. i don't like it at all but while it has its negatives and frustrations now it'll be a positive thing in years to come when clubs have finally learned to work with it. on one hand it maintains the status quo and hierarchy of clubs but on the other hand it protects smaller clubs (or at least should) from having their club ruined by an eccentric owner. and besides, we've seen smaller clubs like luton and brentford achieve success through merit and guile even with FFP.

FFP also protects clubs from fans. When we were signing Brazilian international players from AC Milan and players from Real Madrid our collective reaction should have been 'wait a minute, this doesn't seem right' but most fans were delighted and revelled in the type of 'we're richer than you' attitude displayed by that idiot at Stamford Bridge.

FFP also protects clubs from fans.
All it has demonstrably done throughout Europe & Blighty is cement the status quo. Look at City. It is massively anti competitive and as such its legality is questionable, and its sanctions massively inconsistent.
At the other end of the scale it has failed to protect the likes of Bury and Wigan. I hated it long before we got done.

I was watching a premier league match the other day between Chelsea and some other team who I cannot remember. I honestly thought I was watching two French African teams play. I counted a total of 3 white players on the pitch.
