we had a few good players come through all at once but only eze turned a profit. among that list was lumley, furlong, BOS and manning. the 4 combined likely brought us in just under 3m. yes i know lumley became shit but he had a good first season with us and we could have sold him for a decent fee after that. BOS and manning ran down their contracts and caused us to panic by giving niko and kakay long deals. niko was a disaster, kakay a decent squad player.
liam kelly turned a profit too didn't he? we signed him for 50k from livingston irc and sold him for around 500k to motherwell.
of the eze money i think only willock has turned out well but he'll be off for free in the summer. dickie was signed for 1.7m and sold for a million despite there being alleged interest in him just a season before. the club is just so poorly run, we're supposed to be a selling club but everytime we have a saleable assett we end up just clinging onto them for dear life.
turning down 2m for dykes and giving him a 4 year deal in the summer is another prime example. the bloke is SHIT and we could have used that money to sign the corpse of jimmy greaves, it certainly wouldn't be any worse than what dykes serves up.
time and time again we fuck up.

BOS and Manning weren’t kids though, they weren’t down to Ramsey and co. BOS had played 70 games for Blackpool. I’d forgotten Furlong but I rate his dad who probably had as much to do with his development as anyone - who wouldn’t tutor his son? Kakay is truly one of our own and most people don’t think he’s any good.

Hard to believe now that there was a spoof thread on here about how shit Dickie was to put people off buying him when he was doing really well for us. I never saw him as a prem player but didn’t see the decline coming either.

Not sure Fernandez “milked” the club Bill. He lost hundreds of millions of quid! He might be the dumbest billionaire to ever walk the planet and the most incompetent owner of a football club on record but if anything he was too honest and naive for his (and our) own good I posted Ferdinand, nothing about Fat Tony. My apologies Bill, misread it

Both probably near to the peaks at around 27 but our recruitment numpties decides it’s good business to bring in 2 old fossals on big salary’s as replacements.

Yeah our business over the summer was a major backwards step. Be surprised if our "recruitment numpties" had anything to do with it tho. The board probably wanted to raise any funds they could and Ainsworth would have wanted the fossils as short term fixes (who in the case of Colback on a two year deal with an option of a third is just a long-term problem)

I’d forgotten Furlong but I rate his dad who probably had as much to do with his development as anyone - who wouldn’t tutor his son? Kakay is truly one of our own and most people don’t think he’s any good. they were still in line with our buy young and sell prime model. manning was a what ... 50k buy from galway? BOS 300k from blackpool and both could have been sold for a very tidy profit had they been under longer contracts. BOS for example is constantly linked with prem clubs in the region of 10m+. he had a very good final 18 months with us, especially his last 6 months and should have been sold for the 5-6m mark imo. furlong was a steal for WBA at 2m. good money for an academy product but arguebly could have went for more. its just a constant with this club tbh. only liam kelly, freeman and eze have turned over good profits and in kelly's case its only because he had a 50k clause in his contract, he was never a success story with us aside from a penalty save against leeds. we have brought in and developed players but we have no forsight as a club. we preach a long term sustainable future yet we're desparately relying on palace to sell eze to save our bacon. its not right. if we had sold players when their value was at its highest who knows where we'd be now? heck, even if we'd sold only half of them for good fees we'd likely be in a much stronger position. we wouldn't have to be scraping the barrel for signings as we'd have funds to splash on players who could continue the process like brentford did. striker wise they went from that dutch guy, to benrahma and maupay and finally watkins all while selling the likes of mepham in between for huge fees. thats like 100m there alone and it enabled them to sign more established names like pontus jansen and toney who ended up being the final pieces of the jigsaw so to speak. its just incredibly frustrating that its the same shit every season or relying on someone to pull a rabbit out of the hat and drag us over the line.

Everything’s OK chaps!
That hugely knowledgable and much respected fount of all footballing wisdom, ‘London Football Scene’, is saying that:
Phew - I had been getting concerned we might be relegated!
