the only real dead certs on any list like that are messi, CR7, pele and maradona and likely in that order imo. messi at least has to go down as the greatest of all time.
other 4? bit more tricky as there's been so many good players. there's an argument for dykes to be on the list as he is supposedly the best on earth but if he's not included then the other 4 should be: cruyff, beckenbaur, yashin and tbh i can't really pick the last one. there's too many great players.
i based my list not only based on individual skill but also their longrvity, impact and legacy. i chose yashin as keepers are so often overlooked and who else has been more influential and symbolic to keeping than him? the guy pioneered modern goalkeeping.
as good as ronaldinho was i wouldn't put him in a top 10 list of greatest ever players tbh. top 20 maybe but his peak lasted what ... 4 or 5 years tops? i know maradona's peak was a similar length but overall maradona was a better player than ronaldinho.

Being danish I have to mention Michael Laudrup. The most elegant footballer to grace the earth. Ever.

Agree mate. Whilst it makes for enjoyable debates, it is impossible to compare eras. Back in Pele's day, for example, defenders were drinking pints the night beofre games & smoked like troopers. But if, say, Pele / Best (any older era player) were to play in the modern game they'd have been nrought up & coached with the modern methods & science available. I am 33 so can't say I have seen some of the names banded about in this discussion play (other than the odd YouTube clip), but Messi & CR7 have completeley re-written the record books. Remember when it used to be a "20 goal a season striker" everybody wanted? These 2 freaks made scoring 50 goals a season the norm. Great point ref Ronaldinho too - he was the most entertaining player of my memorable lifetime tbh, but his lack of longevity stops him being mentioned in the 'best ever' debates, for me anyway.

Good and valid point about comparing eras because of fitness and equipment. Also bear in mind the state of the pitches. Keeping it close to home Stan and Rodney produced some amazing performances on the post-Christmas diamond of mud covering the pitch from penalty spot to penalty spot.

garrincha lost his v card to a goat irc too lol and was also very slow mentally, but what a footballer. there's a funny story about him where he didn't even realise or understand that he'd won the world cup. he just liked playing football.
who are your guys favourite players of all time? doesn't have to be world beaters, nor can you include QPR players in the list, just players you loved to watch.
for me its shevshenko, gudjonson and pirlo. always loved watching those guys when i was growing up. ronaldinho is right up there too as he made football so fun to watch and his love for playing was infectious to everyone who watched him play.

My non-QPR faves were Best and Greaves. Greaves always managed to avoid being assaulted by a Neanderthal and be in the right place to stroke the ball home. Did sod all else mind, but a lovely goalscorer. A bit later I enjoyed watching Malcolm MacDonald - no way a class player but he had 100% confidence in his very limited ability and scored some great goals.

Would anyone consider Bergkamp to have been UNDERrated? Fabulous player. Quite possibly. I always think Andy Cole was quote 'underrated' too, he is never inthe discussion when people talk about best PL sides (in fairness with Shearer, Henry, Suarez etc in the convo I get why), but his goal record at Newcastle & United was superb. Always remember his poxy hat trick against us at Loftus Road though when he was at Burnley ffs...

Would anyone consider Bergkamp to have been UNDERrated? Fabulous player. nowadays he probably is. too many people just look at his stats on wiki and aren't too impressed with his goal return. i remember him very well and he was an absolute baller, beautiful first touch and technique. i also think a lot of younger people underrate drogba as just a good player who stepped it up even more in the big games due to him only having a hanfull of 20+ goals a year. reality was drogba is one of the best number 9s in prem history, not for his output in goals but his ability to lead the line and create space. there's been lots of underrated players though, imo i think darren bent is the most underrated striker in prem history.

R block started singing "you're not famous anymore" at him and I remember thinking don't sing that, he'll punish us. He did just that.

Socrates, not the stoic one , but the midfielder from Brazil was a joy to watch and one of the best midfielders I have ever seen. Fun fact - He was actually a chain smoking doctor.
